Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. It would be critical to revise this edition if it is to continue to offer value . Important poets have been added to the list.

Power of Now A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
by
Eckhart Tolle
mtrangaris
, April 26, 2006
There is some truth in what Tolle writes but his understanding is incomplete and suggests he is niavely unaware of his ignorance or trying to exploit the ignorance of others. In any case, I do not find the instuction of a true master in the material I have been exposed to. He talks about the achievement of enlightenment but the third step, or as the Buddhist say, the third noble truth, is absent: the way to end suffering. This is where the true master's value is; in directing the student to a direct understanding of how to traverse the path from suffering to the realization of the end of suffering. It seems as if Mr Tolle is hoping the reader/student/listener will get lucky. Perhaps he has or perhaps he is exploiting the teachings of a true master. I believe he is setting himself up as another trap, one he may even be caught in. At any rate; he has nothing to offer that the dedicated student can not find without his assistance. He is not that special. Instead go to the library or better yet; find a true master.
