The Ravencliff Bride (Candleglow)
by
Dawn Thompson

, May 03, 2006
Ms. Thompson has penned a very evocative gothic romance with all of the elements fans of this genre will appreciate. Her new husband Nicholas Walraven she?s married by proxy up in Scotland has rescued Sara from debtor?s prison. Sara doesn?t understand why Nicholas would do such a thing. They?ve never met and when they finally do she is surprised to see he?s handsome if not a bit odd. Still she finds herself drawn to her secretive husband. But from the first meeting Sara senses there are secrets at Ravencliff. They are dark and dangerous, and her quest to understand her husband only seems to add more questions to an ever-growing list. But the attraction between Nicholas and Sara is strong and no matter how hard they try they can?t fight fate. But when Sara finds out the secret Nicholas has been desperately trying to keep, will she be willing to embrace Nicholas or will she loose him to a dark destiny? Ms. Thompson has brought the sub genre of the gothic romance to vivid life with her story ?The Ravencliff Bride.? Her mastery over words will bring this dark romance to life for the reader. Nicholas and Sara are interesting characters and their romance was a joy to read. For fans new to the sub genre of gothic romance this is a fair introduction for them. Ms. Thompson is an author I look forward to reading in the future and one I would highly recommend.

Waterlord

Ms. Thompson?s second effort is without a doubt one of the most sensually romantic stories I?ve read in a very long time. If you were lucky enough to have read ?The Ravencliff Bride? you already know it was a book worth reading. ?The Waterlord is light years ahead of that one. I truly can?t say enough wonderful things about this book! Lady Rebecca or ?Becca? as she calls herself is fleeing a future she cannot even begin to contemplate. Her father has gambled her away and she will do what she must in order to live a life that makes her happy. Sadly her coach crashing in Bodmin Moor mars her escape and when she thinks all is lost a man who seems almost magical in his appearance rescues her and her abigail Maud. She is unaccountably drawn to her savior and no matter how hard she tries to deny it, her passion for the handsome but mysterious host will not abate. Will she be able to leave Klaus when the time arrives or will fate have other plans for these two people? Klaus is driven by his destiny. He is not mortal, he is fey and he must not stray far from his waterfall. He must also mate with a mortal and soon in order for him to realize is destiny. But his desire for Becca exceeds his desire to do right by his race. She is a part of him now and he doesn?t have the strength to walk away from her. But his and Becca?s future is about to be put to the test and they?re love is in danger by a devious traitor. Will they be able to have the forever they both desire? This is a wonderful read. I fell a little in love with Klaus! I love Ms. Thompson?s make believe world and once you step into the story, you will be hard pressed to put the book down once your start it. In other words make sure you have nothing pressing to get done. Ms. Thompson has a earned a spot on my ?keeper shelf? and is now an author I will buy simply because her name graces the cover.

Her Highland Rogue
by
Leanne Burroughs

, May 03, 2006
I fell a little in love with Duncan in ?Highland Wishes? and was thrilled that this guy was going to get his own story! As with her past effort Ms. Burroughs has delivered yet again with this wonderfully romantic story about two souls that want to love but just can?t trust the emotion. Duncan McThomas is forced to marry English beauty Catherine Gillingham by the English King. It?s the last thing he wants but he will do his duty. He will marry her and walk away from her before she can leave him as his first wife did and as his own father did when Duncan was a small boy. Duncan is not prepared to find Catherine attractive or desirable he certainly never thought to find her company appealing. After consummating the marriage he leaves her at his home and leaves for Grant Drummonds stronghold. This proud warrior is too proud to admit he?s making a mistake and by the time he comes to his senses, his wife has left for England. Will he be able to convince her to return to Scotland and to stand by his side? Catherine Gillingham McThomas wants her husband to love her as she loves him. She is unable to voice her feelings and instead runs from them only to realize you can?t hide from what you feel. Together these two wounded souls try to find an even balance while pretending their feelings are less than they are. With the backdrop of Scotland?s war for independence, Cat and Duncan find a love that they never thought possible. But, will they be able to find peace from their past hurts? Again this story is rich in history as well as breathtakingly original. We again visit with Tory and Grant, and introduced to new friends that will wrap their way around your heat. I greatly look forward to Ms. Burroughs? next effort. She is an author I will now purchase by name alone.

Highland Wishes
by
Leanne Burroughs

, May 03, 2006
?Highland Wishes? is without a doubt one of the best historical novels I?ve had the privilege to read in a long while. Ms. Burroughs has taken great care in her research of the time period and location and as a result the reader is in for a fulfilling read that will haunt them long after the final page has been read. Victoria Blackstone has given up the hope of ever finding someone who will want her and love her for herself. Her father is a cruel man and her only solace comes from her loving grandmother and even she can?t stop the plans Victoria?s father has set in motion. Tory takes her fate into her own hands?or at least for a brief moment and time she does. Soon she finds herself taken from her father?s manor home by Scottish Laird Grant Drummond. Her life is about to change and she?s about to be swept into the turbulent time that all Highlanders are about to face. With a war on the horizon with the British King and her own confused feeling for the strong Highlander that has captured her, will Victoria be able to put aside her dreams of finding a love that surpasses time or will these dreams be nothing more than Highland wishes? Grant and Victoria are characters the reader will likely never forget. Ms. Burroughs has penned a wonderfully epic historical romance that will engage the reader from the first page. This sweeping story will take you back to a long forgotten time where men fought hard and loved hard and where honor and strength truly meant something. Ms. Burroughs is a gifted storyteller and one I highly recommend. Her stories are truly gifts to the lucky reader who picks them up.

Restless Knight
by
Debora Macgillivray

, May 03, 2006
Ms. MacGillivray has truly been blessed with the rare gift of being able to tell a story. Her debut effort ?A Restless Knight? aptly demonstrates what happens when a writer loves to tell a story readers will care about. This sensually written romance is an eloquent and obvious example of why we read romance! Julian Challon is was once known as the kings champion but Challon has lost the taste of fighting and the immense price one must pay for the sick and twisted thinking of a monarch. The last battle he participated in Berwick cost him a brother. He wants a new life one with a warm hearth, children, and maybe even a wife he can care about. But he is unwittingly given a chance of realizing his dream and thereby redeeming his soul. He must secure Glenrogha and marry its mistress, Lady Tamlyn. He will have to walk a fine line in order to get what he wants?but this warrior will not give up. After all what he wants is worth fighting for. Lady Tamlyn is a proud Scottish lass. She answers to no man?until the black dragon from her dreams arrives in her little corner of the world. She can?t explain it, but Challon speaks to her and although she wants to defy this Englishman at every turn, her body and heart thwart her. But her life is not hers any longer and her dreams and choices have been stolen from her by royal decree?or have they? Perhaps fate has given her a gift beyond price?the heart of a true warrior. This story is a richly crafted tapestry of history and romance. Ms. MacGillivray knows how to ensnare and captivate her reader with finally drawn characters and storyline. You will be moved to laughter and tears. A writer who can tap your emotions with words is a gift that should not be overlooked.
