Lara Book One Of The World Of Hetar
by
Bertrice Small

In this thrilling story which is the initial Book in Small?s new ?World of Hetar? series ? I can only say, Ms. Small has ?still got it going on!? ? Wow, and holy cow! This promises to be a historical fantasy lovers dream come true complete with fascinating new magical beings and ruthless and greedy adversaries. Simply delicious! Lara is a half-faerie daughter of a renowned swordsman, John Swiftsword. Lara?s half-faerie heritage is most prominently apparent by her uncommonly beautiful countenance and she is both revered and feared because of it. Having been abandoned by her faerie mother, she dearly loves and would do anything for the father who raised her including letting him sell her to be auctioned off into one of the Pleasure Houses of Hetar in order for him to obtain the funds needed to become a Crusader Knight. Unfortunately, before Lara is auctioned off the rumors of her uncommon beauty cause such antagonism amongst the other Pleasure Houses she is put on a trading caravan to be sold to the distant Coastal Kingdom of Hetar. Traveling through the forest in the first part of her epic journey Lara is bought by the Forest Lords who insist on having her when they discover she is part-faerie and where she is sexually used and abused. Later Lara would escape from the Forest to the Desert kingdom where the Shadow Princes introduce her to the pleasures of seduction and desire. It would be here that Lara would realize she had a destiny to fulfill and that destiny would lead her to the Outlands and Lord Vartan where she would try to determine if he be her ?true destiny? or just another stop along the way. People familiar with Bertrice Small will find her signature elements ongoing in this epic journey with a heroine whose sexual encounters involve more than just her hero and ?one true love?. It is an extremely robust story with numerous fully-developed characters both primary and secondary to this epic tale. The scenery and settings, though not of royalty as some of her previous historical epics, are none the less vibrantly detailed and beautifully rendered with this authors uniquely descriptive voice. I was totally entertained with the numerous magical beings introduced which are a fantasy lover?s dream. From Og the Forest Lords gentle giant; the guardian fairy Ethne; the very magical Prince Kaliq of the Shadow Lords; right down to Lara?s singing sword, faithful staff, and her golden stallion Dasras! At 540 pages this is epic in length yet the pages will fly and at the end, they left this reviewer panting for more! Highly recommended reading! Marilyn Rondeau, RIO ? Longing Season
by
Christine Schaub

If good things come in small packages, then you are in for a real treat with this short but very powerful and poignant story found in Christine Schaub?s THE LONGING SEASON -- second book in her ?Music of the Heart? series. As the son of a sea captain in England 1746, there were few options open for a young man than to serve his king during a time of war. Unfortunately the young, brash John Newton served only himself. Going off to sea that journey would see him flogged, turned into a slave, then into a slave trader living a degenerate lifestyle while renouncing all of God?s teachings. By some small miracle, word reached him from home and John would start on a new journey with a small ?sliver of hope? that the young woman he?d once lost his heart to would still be waiting there. The journey would be full of pitfalls that would test his faith and bring him to his knees, but through it all Newton would discover the journey to redemption would be one of the most important of his life. Later in life, he would reflect over that journey and go on to write one of the most beloved hymns of all time ? ?Amazing Grace?. This was an extraordinary read. The author researched and wrote this with impeccable attention to detail breathing life into the characters that made them even bigger than life. While John Newton led an interesting and incredible life, I was more impressed by the woman he loved. Mary Catlett was a young woman who gave away her heart to a childhood sweetheart, yet when all had given him up for dead remained steadfast in her determination praying for his safe return. Afforded a season in London, courted by a very handsome, very eligible and honorable heir to an Earldom she would turn down a brilliant offer of marriage to remain ?waiting for John?. This author?s unique voice, well-written and fast-paced read was a joy making me both laugh and cry. To be sure, as a soloist in my church choir I will have a much greater appreciation while singing one of my personal favorite hymns now knowing of the trials this man?s journey of redemption took him on to create such a masterpiece. I loved this book and very highly recommend it. Marilyn Rondeau, RIO ? Reviewers International Organization

Restless Knight
by
Debora Macgillivray
Marilyn Rondeau
, May 05, 2006
In Scotland, 1296, Lady Tamlyn, Countess of Glenrogha, was caught unawares when the mists that had shielded the sacred passes of Glen Shane for centuries failed to hide the valley allowing a horde of Norman warriors riding under the pennant of the Dragon of Challon to enter. About to be ravaged she caught herself muttering the words of an ancient spell of empowerment, stopped in horror when she realized that the words would summon the breath of the dragon. Consequently, it would be the Black Dragon of Challon who came to her aid, only to later imprison her - mind, body and soul. Long obsessed with the three MacShane sisters who held titles to their own land King Edward wanted to see them wed and bred to Englishmen - referring to this plan as the ?Seeding of Scotland campaign?. Julian Challon, once the king?s champion, was sent to accomplish this mission; secure the fortress of Glenrogha; and wed the Lady Tamlyn. After the atrocities witnessed at Berwick, and the madness that now consumed his king, Challon welcomed the mission, looked forward to settling down to raise fine sons. Tamlyn was both fearful and mesmerized by the beauty of Challon. Descended from ancient Picts, her warrior heart knew she should despise the Norman, but her body betrayed her by the sheer magnetism of the most beautiful man she?d ever seen ? a man she ?knew? - if only from her dreams. Challon himself was stricken by the unusual cat-eyes of the young woman who though dressed simply had the heart of a warrior and the regal bearing of a princess. Never before had a woman so challenged and aroused him as much as she did. Challon may have been the warrior but it would be Tamlyn who would conquer and tame the mighty dragon with her love. *** This impressive debut will enthrall the reader from the very first pages thrusting the reader immediately into the characters lives with vivid descriptions, rich historical detail, and a touch of mysticism that resonates from the ancients. Delivering this story with the skill of an accomplished wordsmith MacGillivray?s inspired prose will move you from laughter to tears and a deeply abiding contentment long after the last page is turned leaving the essence of these two unforgettable characters to remain forever in your hearts. Written with a finely tuned passionate and sensual voice this love story will simply take your breath away. This is one for the ?keeper shelf? and one I most highly recommend! Marilyn Rondeau ?
