A fun, unique adventure story for all ages. Historically based, with monsters of legend thrown in such as Sasquatch and the Muskeg. Has a bit of fun for everyone: a circus, a robbery, murder, dastardly villains, parental/child strife, avalanches, running atop a train, American Indians, etc. Oscar Wilde even gets a nod. Great family read!

Un Lun Dun

Alice in Wonderland for the X, Y and Z generations, or Oz for the modern age. Fantastic wordplay and masterfully written, with images and imaginings Lewis Carroll would be proud of. Zanna and her friend Deeba are whisked away to a fantastic mirror image of London (only one of many mirror cities in existence, such as Romeless, Lost Angeles, Helsunki, No York) where items Londoners are done with end up to be used again (in very different ways) and giraffes are flesh-eating fiends. While a thick book, the pacing is brisk and lively, with great characterization, and the thrill to see what the author will imagine next. Great fun for teens on up.

Such a clever fairy tale. Bounces flawlessly from story to story (told story to 'life') keeping each story brisk and addictive. Truly charming and unique. A great read for middle readers or middle school age children especially for bedtime with parents.

A smart fairy tale of magic, love and intrigue. The book is masterfully written, with flowing prose and short chapters to keep the pace brisk and addictive. While I would have handled the ending a bit different, that by no means makes it a bad ending or poorly done, just different. A fantastic read.

Funny, even hysterical in parts. Great read especially if you have some 'Southern in y'all.' Fun facts about SOuthern culture, and situations most of us can relate to at least once, if not more.

A great Southern Gothic supernatural mystery! Works in light touches of history which are interesting but not too much to bog down the story or narrative. Good mystery, kept me guessing. Fun, spine tingling parts and page turning action and interest. Engaging read!

While mildly interesting, these very short tales are great for quick reading but short on depth. There is some interesting information here, but most of the stories are 2-4 page affairs that has boiled the story down to its bare nessesities and I finished them feeling like I read an outline and wanted more.

I started this with trepedation, thinking it would bash religion, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was thoughtfull, thought provoking, educational, and ernest. I learned much from this book about faith, and how we all view it and approach it differently. It was really an elightening read.

Unexpectedly facinating and fun. Packed with obscure facts intelectuals (or info geeks) will love, with a sprinkling of personal anecdotes that help connect the reader and the author, but not TMI. Keeps a brisk pace and light tone, with a deep thought dropped in from time to time. An expanding and entertaining read.

Black Dove Holmes On The Range

Number 5 in the series has the brothers Red competing in a detective competition at the Chicago World's Fair. The White City is well described, and again the story is entertaining and characters life-like. The brothers play off each other so well, without being annoying. A Laurel and Hardy type relationship but even better!

Number 3 in the series sees brothers Big Red and Old Red in San Fran Chinatown and back with the ever entertaining Diana, who's last name is still in question. This is a great story, well ritten and historically accurate without bogging down. Fun, entertaining, I don't think a series has ever had me laughing out load so much.

Number 4 in the searies. A darker episode in the lives of Big and Old Red. An interesting mystery and great characters keeps you turning pages. I think at this point I may be ready to marry either brother. Cleaver combination of Sherlockian theory, character study and entertaining story!

Number 2 in this fun and addicting series. The brothers are wonderfully real, the other characters are equally well drawn, the plot is well paced and a good mystery to boot. The author also does a nice job with history, giving you just enough but not too much. Fun, fun, fun!

I love this series! The brothers are so well characterized, you feel as if you really know them. The dialogue is natural and fun. The plot is well rganized and even comes with a twist or two. The combination of Holmesian and cowboy is perfectly balanced and refeshingly unique. Fun series!
