Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

River Cottage Veg 200 Inspired Vegetable Recipes

What a wonderful cookbook! I love to look at cookbooks and buy too many of them but this is one of the yummiest vegetable cookbooks I've seen recently. You get over 200 delicious recipes which is such a good deal. I am not a true vegetarian but am trying to incorporate more vegetables in my diet and less meat purely for the health benefits. There are simple recipes that you've probably tried before like pizza, crostini and savory tarts as well as some intriguing recipes like sweet potato and peanut gratin, parsnip and ginger soup, squash and walnut toastie or pistachio dukka. There aren't a lot of unusual ingredients that would be hard to find but rather items you would find in your local grocery store. The directions are clear and easy to follow. This week I'll be trying out the carrot hummus along with fennel and celery root soup with orange zest. Yum!

Beautiful Ruins

Wonderful love story that begins on the Italian Coast near the Cinque Terra (great memories of our travels there)in 1962 and moves forward to today. A simple Italian who lives in a small village and an American movie star cross paths as we learn of the intertwining world of movies and producers, actors and agents and the people in a quiet Italian coastal town.
