Irreplaceable
by
Stephen Lovely

This novel explores the dynamic relationships that evolve because of a heart. This is Stephen Lovely's debut novel, and I suspect we'll see many more from him. I personally was amazed at the understanding the author had for the heart recipient. The woman's emotions, the way she deals with them, and interacts with those around her, were incredibly believable. I was also surprised at the ability with which he incorporated humor into the story. The subject itself is one that does not invoke images of laughter, yet his ability to weave the light heartedness in with the sorrowful was seamless. If you're looking to read something from a new author, I would suggest this book. There is some foul language as well as a couple of bedroom scenes, however, in all honesty because the story is compelling, it is easily overlooked if you generally don't read books with that type of content.

Taken
by

An adoring mother, who has always provided every want and need for her daughter, is at a loss at the depression that her daughter is suffering from being childless. The one thing her daughter wants is a child, and all avenues have come up null. Until Anna, takes a quick visit to the mall before visiting her daughter Leslie, and walks out of the stores with not just a new outfit, but a baby as well. Assuring herself that it was a mission from God, that prompted her to do this for her daughter, she dismisses the angst away. She doesn't know though, that the mother of the abducted child is bi-polar. Add an evil best friend into the mix, who falsifies adoption papers for the family, and you have a suspenseful page turning book. A host of dysfunctional females are at the center of this book, and the men that share their relationships, so action, mayhem and catfights are penned upon each page. I did read this book fairly quickly as the story engaged me. The writing flows, and it is easy to get caught up in it. Using the television rating system, I would rate this book for MA for Mature as there is L, V and S themes throughout the book.

Ariels Journey
by
Doug Kane
sneddy29
, November 06, 2008
Unlike the usual fare published for tween girls, Ariel’s Journey captured my attention. It is a refreshing change from the typical media thrust at our young daughters. The book should appeal to a broad range of girls between the ages of 12 and 14, but especially to either those who like horses or those who like fantasy reading. When a group of girls, part of a 4-H club revolving around horses, gets transported back in time 800 years, they need to work together to save an Icelandic village and rescue a chieftain’s daughter. Full of action and drama this book keeps the pages turning.

One Fifth Avenue
by
Candace Bushnell
sneddy29
, November 06, 2008
This is a chance to indulge in some escapism with the new novel by Bushnell "One Fifth Avenue". So even though I live under a rock, I got to read all about those who live in one of Manhattan's prestigious buildings. The chic, the terrible, the very rich and the wannabes. It allowed me to imagine what frivolous amusements the very rich can obsess about, and then when I was done I could go to sleep being thankful that my life really isn't like that lol. Ideally a novel should transport you to an alternate place, one that through the words of the author you feel like the characters are your friends or enemies, and if you can believe that you are a part of that world for 400 pages then it is well written. Bushnell does a wonderful job of it. There are characters I wish would be my neighbors, and then there were some I wanted to punt! If you read other Candace Bushnell books, or have watched any of the shows based on her books, and enjoy them, I'm pretty sure you'll like this one as well. If you are a newbie to this author like I was; pick up a copy and make your own decision on whether you'll be waiting eagerly for the next published novel from her.

Midnighters 01 Secret Hour
by
Scott Westerfeld

Midnighters is a gripping story that offers a glimpse into a fantasy world. Scott Westerfeld has a way of immersing his readers in an hour of time that doesn't exist, and eagerly flipping the pages to get to the end.

Small Steps
by
Louis Sachar
sneddy29
, October 10, 2007
As with all of Louis Sachar's books, this one is good. Taking place where "Holes" leaves off, it follows the character "Armpit" and his follies. There's a reason that Powell's only has one left! The demand can only go up, for a well written book.

This has become one of my favorite books. It is very "meaty" but is all full of "dessert". It is the type of book your heart yearns for, because it has so much sage advice , that you pick up while reading it.

The "prequel" so to say of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, a far lesser known book, describes how Narnia came to be. Little surprises , right from the beginning make this a treasure classic, just like the second installment.

Ever wonder what happens at Disney World after dark? Well here's one author's imagination at work, to the question that many of us (even adults), have thought of over the years. A read filled with wonder for those of us who are like Peter Pan and have never really grown up!

This is such an intriguing book. Certainly not for the "casual" reader. You will spend a good deal of time, immersed in the alternate world that Stephen King and Peter Straub create in this book. It's a page turner right to the end.
