Synopses & Reviews
The Corning Museum of Glass, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, possesses the most celebrated collection of glass in the world, including one of the most extensive collections of Roman glass anywhere. These two books begin a three-volume series (Volume Three will appear in 2003) that comprehensively catalogues this great collection, with a photograph, profile drawing, and detailed description of each object (including comments on the object's significance and on similar pieces in other collections). Included in each volume are bibliography, concordances, and indexes.
Volume Two covers 387 objects (mostly from the first to seventh centuries A.D.): objects with mold-blown ornament or inscriptions; objects with applied ornament; gold glasses; and painted and gilded glass.
