Synopsis
Excerpt from Second Latin Writer, Containing Hints on Writing Latin Prose: With Graduated Continuous Exercises
MY object in writing this book is to endeavour to teach boys who have mastered the elementary rules to write Latin Prose without cramming them with rules 'and examples. My main idea has been to insist on a care ful comparison of the English with the Latin, and to let the pupil learn by steady practice, drawing his attention to the fact that the only way to learn to write good Latin is by trying to appreciate the Latin authors he is reading.
With this end in View I have given some hints on the difference between English and Latin in idiom and in style. There are in addition some notes on the commoner difficulties, with a table of differences of idiom.
