Synopses & Reviews
THE first moorland view as one travels westward from Whitby. Away to the left, on the further side of the Esk, is the lofty plateau of Sleights Moor, with Egton High Moor furtber away still. Near this spot, sometimes known as Aislaby Common, is the Skelder Inn, a lonely little house whose dimly-lit windows serve as a beacon to wayfarers on dark wintry nights. Preface IT may seem almost superfluous to explain that this book does not deal with the whole of Yorkshire, for it would obviously be impossible to get even a passing glimpse of such a great tract of country in a book of this nature. But I have I endeavoured to give my o h impressions of much of the beautiful coast-line, and also some idea of the character of the moors and dales of the northeast portion of the county. Wensleydale and some of the lovely spots in the western part of the Riding have been omitted, but their charms deserve a volume to themselves. GORDON HOME. CONTENTS QBIPllIL I.
