'All my life, I've had a passion for people...helping people discover solutions to reach their dreams - That's Empowerment!'
Seeing an author whose name on a book is 'Inspiring Indy' leads to curiosity if not to disbelief regarding the validity of a book. In this case the nom de plume is that of Indelethio Nebeker, a certified Life Coach, a missionary, an English as a Second Language director, a man who participated in the nurturing of the 9/11 victims, and a motivational speaker. His primary concern is aiding teens coming out of jail in finding a sense of self esteem to prevent recidivism. And when all of that background information is shared, this little easy to digest and easy to follow book gains considerably in credibility and should become a part of the school systems and the libraries of all parents with teenagers.
TOXIX INGREDIENTS: THE TOP 10 FACTORS THAT GET YOUR KID IN TROUBLE explains the contents of this book well. In a no nonsense and very supportive role, 'Inspiring Indy' lists the primary excuses vs reasons kids use to get into trouble: 'It was after 10 PM, I wasn't thinking, hanging out with the bad friends, we were bored, alcohol, drugs, no one is listening, broken family, no God - no conscience, no God - no self worth.' How familiar these all sound, right? Well, the author briefly explains the whys of these excuses and how parents can approach each of them in a non-punitive, very supportive way. In his Introduction the author/coach shares his technique of working with troubled teens: he places one teen in the middle chair and flanks him/her with another 'actor' teen as the Good Angel and the Bad Angel and then proceeds to demonstrate the influence and powers and choices of both sides of a situation. 'It is important at this point to make mention that my role is to empower each student to find their own unique Message of Love, using their own words, in order to stay out of trouble. And it works every time.'
For some the ending of the book with its emphasis on the religious aspects of the author's thoughts may seem a bit too pat, but for those with troubled teens or potentially troubled teens this little book holds not only hope but techniques heretofore sorely missing from aids that can prevent the downslide into bad behaviors that face the children of today.
