Jinwoo Chong: Clock In: Jinwoo Chong’s Playlist for 'Flux' (0 comment)
I had my first inklings of the novel that eventually became Flux about a year after I was laid off from my first job after college, the result of a corporate takeover of my company that eliminated my entire department. While a tough hurdle to overcome at twenty-one years old, I learned a lot about self-sufficiency....

Return once more to a galaxy far, far away with this sublime retelling of George Lucas’s epic Star Wars in the style of the immortal Bard of Avon. The saga of a wise (Jedi) knight and an evil (Sith) lord, of a beautiful princess held captive and a young hero coming of age, Star Wars abounds with all the valor and villainy of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. ’Tis a tale told by fretful droids, full of faithful Wookiees and fearstome Stormtroopers, signifying... pretty much everything.

Reimagined in glorious iambic pentameter — and complete with twenty gorgeous Elizabethan illustrations — William Shakespeare’s Star Wars will astound and edify Rebels and Imperials alike. Zounds! This is the book you’re looking for.

Review

“The Bard at his finest, with all the depth of character, insightful soliloquies, and clever wordplay that we’ve come to expect from the Master. For those who wish to read the Star Wars legend in the original Elizabethan, this is the book for you.” Timothy Zahn, New York Times bestselling author of Scoundrels

Review

“I'm delighted to have William Shakespeare's Star Wars, and have read it with great pleasure. What a fine idea, to set this in the world of Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 C-3PO and Darth Vader! A period of civil war, rebels, the Galactic Empire, the death star. A star-crossed galaxy! Ian Doescher does iambic pentameter well. This is a hoot!” David Bevington, Phyllis Fay Horton Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Humanities, University of Chicago and co-editor of The Bantam Shakespeare series

Review

“An elegant translation for a more civilized age. Let's face it — if you love Shakespeare or Star Wars half as much as I do, you've already bought this.” Adam Bertocci, author of Two Gentlemen of Lebowski, writer-director of Brooklyn Force and Run Leia Run, and moderator of TheForce.net

Review

“Zounds, the Forsooth is strong in this one! Two of the most creative minds in the universe collide with spectacular, hilarious and surprisingly touching insight into the original classic. This truly is Star Wars as you like it.” Joe Schreiber, author of Star Wars: Death Troopers and Lenny Cyrus, School Virus

Review

“Whether your tastes run to Alderaan or Avon, this reimagining of Star Wars overflows with heart and wit.” Jason Fry, author of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare

A wonderful retelling of a classic story, a story we know so well. I found myself laughing throughout as classic stories blended perfectly, and in iambic parameter, no less. Those familiar with the Bard will catch the references to Hamlet, The Scottish Play, Midsummer's Night's Dream, and Henry (among others) as well as classic lines re-written, such as "I find thy lack of faith disturbing." My only complaint would be of Han - the speeches given him do not fit nearly as well as the others, leaving the most familiar scoundrel in the 'Verse to be a shadow of his former self. Other than that, this was a most enjoyable read, and one I look forward to continuing in the next book.

You’re not reading this book for the story. You know the story. If you’re picking up this book, you’ve seen movie " movies " more times than you can count. You’re reading this book for the execution. And let me tell you " the execution is hilaaarious. Now you might be a little leery, what with George Lucas’ undo preference for a ‘revised’ Star Wars coupled with his tight control over the copyright of the franchise, and fear that not even the language of Shakespeare can make worth entering into that whole mess again, and that’s understandable.

Is this a saber I see, handle toward my mind? Come, let me force thee! A little bag of tricky treats! Good fun and a nice way to learn this classic verse form.
