Rarely has a book of poetry hit me so deeply since picking up Mary Oliver for the first time. There is something raw and poignant about Beers' work, where you close the book and feel as if you're walking away from a friend you've come to care for deeply. She speaks with passion and grace about the most difficult subjects, and there is power in her words. I can't recommend this book enough for anyone looking for good poetry, whether new to the genre or looking for new voices to consider. Beers' work is a treasure, and it's only a shame it isn't publicized more.
