Powell's Staff: New Literature in Translation: December 2022 and January 2023 (0 comment)
It may be a new year, this may be a list of new books, but our love for literature in translation hasn’t changed at all, and we are so pleased to be enthusiastically recommending these recent releases. On this list, you’ll find a Spanish novel where controversy swirls around a Coca-Cola billboard...

SOON TO BE A FEATURE FILM!

This Hugo Award-winning graphic novel chronicles the fall from grace of a group of super-heroes plagued by all-too-human failings. Along the way, the concept of the super-hero is dissected as the heroes are stalked by an unknown assassin.

One of the most influential graphic novels of all time and a perennial bestseller, WATCHMEN has been studied on college campuses across the nation and is considered a gateway title, leading readers to other graphic novels such as V FOR VENDETTA, BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and THE SANDMAN series.

Review

"Watchmen is peerless." Mikal Gilmore, Rolling Stone

Review

"A brilliant piece of fiction." The Village Voice

Review

"It's tempting, and entirely possible...to lose oneself in Moore and Gibbons's multilayered narrative techniques....But the story of Watchmen, carefully plotted and decidedly finite, deserves equally close attention, as its acuteness has not dulled with age." Dave Itzkoff, The New York Times Book Review

Review

"[U]nquestionably a landmark work, a masterpiece, even." Slate.com
