A thoroughly enjoyable tale, beautifully told. Focusing on the fantastic life of the narrator's professor, it occasionally grants strange glimpses of the narrator's own life on the fringes of Portland subculture. Fascinating to the end, I found myself wishing I had been a part of such a grand adventure!

Got one of the first 100 printed copies, so signed by the author, yay! (Sorry Powell's customers, I do not think you will get one of those necessarily). For folks who are interested in the Portland experience, pre-Portlandia hipsterism, and also are fascinated by history, transgenderism, and alternative views on all kinds of topics, this memoir is for you. Ross Eliot finds himself living with a strange lady, Dr. Babette Ellsworth who he met at Portland Community College (she was one of his professors). As he gets to know her, he finds out that she is not who she seems, and her history is convoluted and full of intrigue. Between the strange and enjoyable characters, and great descriptions of life in Portland, this book should be of interest to fans of memoirs and Portland writing, and anyone who likes "so strange it could only be true".

I had the wonderful opportunity of reading this book in its full form manuscript before it was published and it was a great tale of an amazing person. If you like memoirs, weird life experiences, and history I would definitely recommend this book! Some of this may seem like it is too crazy to actually happen, but if you were ever to meet Ross in person (he lives in Portland so you may!) you will know that he is a person who is open to experiences and only he could have lived this journey.
