Just like most millennials in America, I grew up watching Happy Days reruns on TV Land. Later on as a teenager and young adult, I cried laughing over Henry Winkler’s character in Arrested Development.
Being Henry tells the story of Winkler’s 50+ years acting from theatre in New York, to prime time in LA. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and especially loved that I could hear his distinct voice in my head as I read. Winkler speaks on the challenges he faced as a child growing up with strict German parents, as an actor whose most famous role happened at the start of his career, as a person with dyslexia who found out far too late in his life, and as a gentle soul just happy to be here.
My only wish was for a bit more backstory on Winkler’s childhood, but overall this was a delightful surprise. 4/5 ⭐️! A huge thank you to Celadon Books for an early review copy. You can purchase a copy anywhere books are sold, tomorrow (10/31/23). Happy Halloween, Henry! 🖤
