My third-grade daughter frequently quotes dialogue from Phoebe and Her Unicorn, followed by wild giggles, which is recommendation enough for me! Simpson’s graphic novel series about a little girl and her best friend, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, always manages a perfect balance of silly and utterly sincere, and this newest volume is no exception. Expect your child to laugh, sigh, and ask you for a unicorn. Recommended By Rhianna W., Powells.com
Synopses & Reviews
Life is never boring when your best friend is a unicorn! The latest installment in this bestselling series is full of mischief, magic and adventure — as well as an important reminder to always stay true to yourself.
School's out, so Phoebe and her unicorn best friend, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, have the entire summer to play games, visit the pool, and even go camping. Unicorn horns are excellent utensils for roasting things over the campfire, too, even if Marigold prefers toasted apples to s'mores. While exploring in the woods, Phoebe and friends meet a unicorn named Alabaster, who uses a special video game console that's powered by plants. Throughout her summer adventures, Phoebe learns that being cool isn't all it's cracked up to be, and that it's much better to be your true self. It's all part of the unforgettable experience of Camping with Unicorns.
Review
"Camping with Unicorns is a delightful middle grade adventure in which a sweet friendship between a girl and her unicorn contains just enough magic to ensure that there’s never a dull moment." Foreword Reviews
About the Author
Dana Claire Simpson grew up in Gig Harbor, Washington, drawing the entire time. She eventually graduated from The Evergreen State College, despite having spent all her time drawing, and not always for credit.
From 1998 to 2008, she drew the internet comic strip Ozy and Millie. After winning the Amazon-sponsored Comic Strip Superstar Contest in 2009, Andrews McMeel Syndication signed her to a development deal for Heavenly Nostrils, which was later renamed Phoebe and Her Unicorn.
She currently lives in Santa Barbara, California, with her tech genius spouse and her fairly stupid cat.
