Orthodox Rabbi Natan Slifkin is a facinating but controversial fellow. He does not preach to a congregation or teach in a yeshiva. Slifkin [aka the "Zoo Rabbi"] writes and lectures about biblical animals and the relationship between Judaism and science. Some leading rabbis have declared him a heretic and bannned his books, while others have defended him. I found his "The Challenge of Creation: Judaism's Encounter with Science, Cosmology, and Evolution" to be a cogent presentation of the views of respected rabbis throughout the ages.
