Synopses & Reviews
This work establishes the precise location of the site of shares or home lots of five acres each belonging to Roger Williams and the other original settlers of the Providence, Rhode Island. Perhaps more importantly for genealogists it also consists of short biographical and genealogical essays of the owners of the lots, virtually all of them containing references to the settlers' origins in England
The author has compiled all the names and other pertinent genealogical information which can be found in the Charleston city directories of 1830-31, 1835-36, 1836 (a supplement), 1837-38, and 1840-41. The names in each of the five directories are arranged in alphabetical order, and typically, the directory entries furnish the name of the Charleston resident, his address, and his occupation, or in the case of female heads of household, if widowed.
