Staff Pick
The youthful and optimistic health home aide Yukie Sakai strives to be the best she can be in a series of stories about the fear and humor of old age — each at once surreal, hilarious, and horrific. People blow up when forgotten by an aging psychic, elderly kaiju discuss the old days of destroying cities over their ailments, labyrinthine wrinkly skin leads to new dimensions, and self-replicating sentient dentures plot nefariously. Kago's art wields the taboo in gorgeous detail — all the while pulling us down into the meat of our spinning, changing, fading brains. Recommended By Cosima C., Powells.com
The elderly clients that young home aide Yukie is tasked with caring for throw her into bizarre and grueling situations that often blur the line between horror and comedy. Yukie is determined to give her clients the best care possible, and will quite literally stop at nothing to ensure their comfort. This was a wacky, dreamlike read that I found myself immersed in late into the night. Recommended By Brianna B., Powells.com

Synopsis
Yukie Sakai is a sprightly young home health aide eager to help her elderly clients. But what seems like a straightforward job quickly turns into a series of increasingly surreal and bizarre adventures that put Yukie's wits to the test Cartoonist Kago, who is well known for combining a more traditional manga style with hyper realistic illustration technique, an experimental visual storytelling approach, and outrageously sexual and scatological subject matter, has single-handedly created his own genre: "fashionable paranoia."
