Review
"This new work by the author of A Clockwork Orange is a long meaty novel about good and evil. It consists of the memoirs of Kenneth Toomey, an 82-year-old British writer of popular, sentimental fiction. Toomey's homosexuality alienates him from his Catholic family. Disillusioned but not embittered, he witnesses three generations and two world wars. He sees one relative shot by Nazis and another become Pope. Earthly Powers is well written, thought provoking, and thoroughly absorbing." Reviewed by Daniel Weiss, Virginia Quarterly Review (Copyright 2006 Virginia Quarterly Review)
