Publisher Comments

Brian and his friends are not part of the cool crowd. Theyre the misfits and the troublemakers—the ones who jump their high schools fence to skip class regularly. So when a deadly virus breaks out, theyre the only ones with a chance of surviving.

The virus turns Brians classmates and teachers into bloodthirsty attackers who dont die easily. The whole school goes on lockdown, but Brian and his best friend, Chad, are safe (and stuck) in the theater department—far from Brians sister, Kenzie, and his ex-girlfriend with a panic attack problem, Laura. Brian and Chad, along with some of the theater kids Brian had never given the time of day before, decide to find the girls and bring them to the safety of the theater. But it wont be easy, and it will test everything they thought they knew about themselves and their classmates.

Praise for SICK

"The gore and action will leave enthralled readers thrilled and then sated with each kill on either side."

—Booklist

"Between the pacing and the heroes salty, blue language (full of lovingly creative, genital-inspired insults), reluctant readers who love zombies will devour it, right up to the abrupt end."

—Kirkus Reviews

"Sick is well written, with great detail, even if it is a little gory."

—VOYA Magazine

Synopsis

In the wake of a devastating disease, everyone sixteen and older is either dead or a decomposing, brainless creature with a ravenous appetite for flesh. Teens have barricaded themselves in buildings throughout London and venture outside only when they need to scavenge for food. The group of kids living a Waitrose supermarket is beginning to run out of options. When a mysterious traveler arrives and offers them safe haven at Buckingham Palace, they begin a harrowing journey across London. But their fight is far from over—the threat from within the palace is as real as the one outside it.

Full of unexpected twists and quick-thinking heroes, The Enemy is a fast-paced, white-knuckle tale of survival in the face of unimaginable horror.

Synopsis

Teens battle diseased grown-ups in this post-apocalyptic thriller full of unexpected twists and quick-thinking heroes.

Synopsis

A sickness has afflicted everyone over the age of 16; anyone who is a "grown-up" has become a decomposing, brainless creature that survives by feeding on children. The children and teens have barricaded themselves in fortified buildings, fighting off attacks from the grown-ups who travel in packs, like hungry dogs. Before long, the young survivors are promised a safe haven in Buckingham Palace and make their way to it, crossing London on a perilous journey that will test them in harrowing ways. But their fight to stay alive is far from over--the threat from within is as real as the one on the outside.

Richard Tracey , January 02, 2013 (view all comments by Richard Tracey)
Not another zombie series, "The Enemy" features diseased adults feasting in teens and kids in a ravaged London. Children have formed neighborhood packs to seek safety in numbers, and each pack includes well-rounded characters who engage our interest and sympathy. The packs trudge through London and come together to form regional tribes, one of which occupies Buckingham Palace. Author Charlie Higson--a British TV star and author of the "Young Bond" book series--says his books engage young readers because his first readers are his 3 sons.
