I loved this book growing up. A family favorite (from when my mother was young), it now belongs to my brother and will be passed down to his children in the future. The rhyming and the anthropomorphized characters make this book fun for all ages!

The magic of this often overlooked book is not in the story (though that is clever), but in the persistence of the rhyming. Each page has numerous rhymes cued with small pictures of objects, which can also be found in the larger picture on the facing page. It inspires rhyme in young children. Provides easy success in "reading" for the beginner and the picture detail offers ample opportunity for vocabulary enrichment through discussion. I get the feeling the author did not know what a gem she was creating when she wrote this book. It is a classic in children's literature and under-appreciated by those who only give a cursory glance to the low key presentation.
