This book was a very eye-opening experience. It gives a whole new view of the Viet Nam era that I could never have imagined. The author related his story of being imprisoned in really horrible conditions. He is a very strong and wonderful man.

A very eye-opening book giving a whole new view of the Viet Nam era conflict, that I had never envisioned before, from inside Laos.

To know Bounsang Khamkeo is to feel the residue of his experience. He is strong, yet humbled, patient yet insistent upon exposing the atrocity of the past he shares with thousands. When you speak with him directly, you can almost share his past imprisonment. Today he is a living testament to the art of survival and a staunch proponent of exposing those who enforced his captivity. If you don't have the chance to meet him, as many of us here in the Pacific Northwest have, you should own a copy of this book to know his story through his words. I am proud to know Bounsang and to call him a friend, at least for my part, and can testify to the importance and contemporary relevance of this book. Derek Mathis - Portland, Oregon
