Our neighbors used this book for a road trip in Iceland and recommended it to us. So far it's our favorite travel guide for planning a summer trip to Iceland. The first half divides the country into five geographic regions and highlights points of interest in each area while laying out a trip around the ring road, but it also has several suggested detours and off-highway recommendations. The book does a good job at describing road conditions and other things to be aware of, such as which stops have public restrooms and when to stop at a service station before long stretches of nothing. The second half is a directory of hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, destinations, and events. The stops highlighted focus on nature and hiking but mix in a fair amount of history, arts, and music. Destinations try to mix in a few 'hidden gems' that are slightly less known attractions. The main limitations are that it does not stray very far from the ring road, and outdoor recommendations stay in the easy to moderate range. Suggested hikes in the book, for example, never exceed four miles.
