Though fiction, Lust Under the Veil provides a realistic view of the struggles Muslims face in confronting the Truth of Christ. Um Daoud gives the reader great insight into facets of Muslim life in the Middle East in contrast to what is portrayed to the West by the media. Living and working among Muslims for many years enables the author to move us past the stereotypes and into the lives of individuals, each of whom give us a different and deeper perspective on the Muslim world. In a world of growing, but often distorted awareness of Islam, Lust Under the Veil is a refreshing and enlightening read for anyone who wants to see the reality of life for the average Muslim.

Um Daoud, with her years of living and working among Muslims, has once again given us a realistic picture of life for Muslim women. This time, in Things I Never Told My Mother, she illustrates the life of thousands who live in more secular Muslim countries and the struggle they face between Western influences on their societies and what little they know of Islam. Readers will realize through this book that the Muslim community is much more complex than the stereo-typical terrorist version portrayed in the media. Things I Never Told My Mother will do much to increase the average reader’s understanding of the Muslim world.
