The Murderer's Ape is a colorful allegorical tale starring an intrepid ape, who is a stand-in for any group of people considered second-class citizens. While she is full-on ape, Sally Jones really represents the best of us. She tries so hard to do the right thing, even when life seems darkest — and there is a lot of dark in young Sally Jones's life. The Murderer's Ape is populated by some wonderful characters, and best of all are the drawings of these people. The illustrations are a delight and help to make the book a compelling read.
