Wild meets Endless Love in this multilayered story of love, survival, and self-discovery

McKenna Berney is a lucky girl. She has a loving family and has been accepted to college for the fall. But McKenna has a different goal in mind: much to the chagrin of her parents, she defers her college acceptance to hike the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia with her best friend. And when her friend backs out, McKenna is determined to go through with the dangerous trip on her own. While on the Trail, she meets Sam. Having skipped out on an abusive dad and quit school, Sam has found a brief respite on the Trail, where everyones a drifter, at least temporarily.

Despite lives headed in opposite directions, McKenna and Sam fall in love on an emotionally charged journey of dizzying highs and devastating lows. When their punch-drunk love leads them off the trail, McKenna has to persevere in a way she never thought possible to beat the odds or risk both their lives.

And every day from her balcony perch, seventeen-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs her terrace and changes everything. As the two fall fiercely in love, Jase's family makes Samantha one of their own. Then in an instant, the bottom drops out of her world and she is suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Synopsis

Peyton, Sydney's charismatic older brother, has always been the star of the family, receiving the lion's share of their parents' attention and—lately—concern. When Peyton's increasingly reckless behavior culminates in an accident, a drunk driving conviction, and a jail sentence, Sydney is cast adrift, searching for her place in the family and the world. When everyone else is so worried about Peyton, is she the only one concerned about the victim of the accident?

Enter the Chathams, a warm, chaotic family who run a pizza parlor, play bluegrass on weekends, and pitch in to care for their mother, who has multiple sclerosis. Here Sydney experiences unquestioning acceptance. And here she meets Mac, gentle, watchful, and protective, who makes Sydney feel seen, really seen, for the first time.

The uber-popular Sarah Dessen explores her signature themes of family, self-discovery, and change in her twelfth novel, sure to delight her legions of fans.

My Life Next Door is a beautiful, heart-warming romance full of memorable characters :) The characters themselves are what stuck out to me most in this book. Samantha is very likable, and I agreed with or understood most of her decisions throughout the book. She's smart, nice, and respectful. It sucked how badly some of the characters treated her (like her mom, for one). Jase is just as amazing :) He's very thoughtful, hardworking, and kind. His family is full of very interesting people. Plus, Sam and Jase make an adorable couple. As for the plot, it was nice that Sam and Jase took their time to get to know each other, but for the first half of the book, there was no real conflict. The real issues come into play during the second half of the book. And how the conflict was resolved was kind of anti-climatic. I expected some more drama, or more struggle, but there wasn't. It was fixed way too quickly. Still, I loved the characters so much, it easily overrode whatever problems I had with the plot. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading YA contemporary. Hwa Sun :)
