As someone who grew up in a multicultural family in Texas, I love this book. It talks about two cousins who live in different towns. Each one enjoys visiting the other and notice some things are the same and some are wonderfully different. I grew up in a city and would visit my Mexican American cousins in a small, southeast Texas town. We spoke English in our home, but my relatives spoke Spanish.
I love that author, Nicholas Solis, wrote MY TOWN, MI PUEBLO using double page spreads sharing the text in both English and Spanish. Luisa Uribe’s beautiful illustrations are authentic portrayals of the similarities and differences of the cousins’ hometowns. The beginning sets up the story in a friendly way that all readers can relate to.
Like the two cousins in MY TOWN, MI PUEBLO, I learned that our differences and our similarities add up to a vibrant world full of even more possibilities. We can build bridges between people and the many ways we are all connected.
