I LOVE this cookbook. I have had it for years! The author, Jan McBride Carlton, writes easy to understand recipes that you are very likely to make. This cookbook has recipes from all over the Unite States - from southern fried chicken, to Hood River Oregon Apple Bread - and one of my favorite things about the book is that Ms. Carlton often introduces a recipe with a little bit of a back story. For example, for the Cranberry Nut Bread, she wrote: "Craneberries" were one of the first native American fruits shipped to the Old World. Wild cranberries were cooked with honey or maple sugar by the Indians, and sailors ate them at sea to prevent scurvy. It's a great resource with lots of "old-fashioned" American recipes that really work.
