This book has been around a while (1957 is the first publishing date I found in my copy) but it is just as relevant today as it was then, maybe even more so.
We (mankind) have just about destroyed ourselves and everything in this world by unleashing nuclear weapons and all of the remaining survivors are congregated in Australia, 'on the beach' so to speak.
The other books by Nevil Shute that I read are good stories - but just that. This one is different!
I'm not going to go into plot because the book has been made into what I consider a classic movie with Gregory Peck and Ava Gardener and then remade with Armande Assante, Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward. Both are worth watching as the book is worth reading.
It's one of the keepers on my bookshelf.
