Fiction. "OUTLAWS, RENEGADES AND SAINTS is an explosion of talent and imagination. The language sizzles, the images are burned into memory, the living and the dead are conversing in this powerful first book"-Susan Power.

Tiffany Midge is a poet for our times. The fractured life she brings to the page in her poems is the fractured life we are all in denial of, the one we muffle with consumerism. As with her helpless mallard in "Mercy Killing," we are too stunned even to notice the swinging ax coming our way. She insists we look full on at the blood and tragedy of America's past and present. She tricks us into doing this with language, with whispered perjoratives like tiny, angry notes, folded over and over into the tiniest package, hidden meaning brought forth only by purposeful exploration: the unfolding---which requires both will and hope. In the end, we have no choice but to recognize that the message is about us, not to us. She gossips about white culture as if sharing a secret with trusted aunties--drenching the white paradigm in both private and public scorn. She puts the reader in the defendant's seat, makes us all responsible, takes us to task for having not done something about this mess sooner.
