Esther Yi: The Writers That Haunt Me: Esther Yi’s Bookshelf for 'Y/N' (0 comment)
I’m haunted by a handful of writers all long dead. They set the standard; naturally I fail. Anything I read of theirs promptly enters my bloodstream, whereupon mysterious internal fomentation proceeds. Y/N is simply the latest extrusion, a concerted one...

Publisher Comments

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Spellman Files series, Lisa Lutzs latest blistering thriller is about a woman who creates and sheds new identities as she crisscrosses the country to escape her past: youll want to buckle up for the ride!

In case you were wondering, I didnt do it. I didnt have anything to do with Franks death. I dont have an alibi, so youll have to take my word for it...

Forty-eight hours after leaving her husbands body at the base of the stairs, Tanya Dubois cashes in her credit cards, dyes her hair brown, demands a new name from a shadowy voice over the phone, and flees town. Its not the first time.

She meets Blue, a female bartender who recognizes the hunted look in a fugitives eyes and offers her a place to stay. With dwindling choices, Tanya-now-Amelia accepts. An uneasy―and dangerous―alliance is born.

Its almost impossible to live off the grid today, but Amelia-now-Debra and Blue have the courage, the ingenuity, and the desperation, to try. Hopscotching from city to city, Debra especially is chased by a very dark secret…can she outrun her past?

With heart-stopping escapes and devious deceptions, The Passenger is an amazing psychological thriller about defining yourself while you pursue your path to survival. One thing is certain: the ride will leave you breathless.

Review

“At the outset of The Passenger, Lutz's narrator knows that her only chance for freedom is to lose herself, and thus, leaving one dead man behind, she hits the diamond lane of America—and storytelling—with a carload of identities, including the reader, who is carried along as both passenger and pursuer. This tenacious and resourceful heroine will keep you chasing, rooting, lip-biting, and above all reading until you reach the ending you never saw coming. My advice: buckle up.”

—Tim Johnston, New York Times Bestselling Author of Descent

Review

"A sharp, clever, and utterly compelling thriller about a woman running from the mistakes and misfortunes of her past. Terrific."

—Chris Pavone, New York Times Bestselling author of The Expats and The Accident

Review

"With whip-smart writing and a breakneck pace, The Passenger's clever plot twists and sharp characters are sure to keep you guessing long into the night, hoping against hope that its complex protagonist isn't nearly as guilty as she seems."

—Kim McCreight, New York Times Bestselling author of Reconstructing Amelia

Synopsis

"Lutz develops riveting suspense by slowly revealing the events that first sent Tanya/Amelia on the run, while pouring threats on her gritty heroine's increasingly tenuous bids at survival. Binge-worthy fare, especially for those drawn to strong female protagonists" (Booklist, starred review).

The Avid Reader , April 06, 2016 (view all comments by The Avid Reader)
The Passenger is listed as fast paced, but I did not find it very speedy (I have two week old kittens that move faster). To me it was a long drawn out book where I kept waiting for my questions to be answered (and after a while I did not care). The Passenger is Tanya’s story of her running, hiding, and finding new identities. The Passenger is just the telling of a story and teller decided to draw it out. The Passenger gets better towards the end (if you make it that far). I give The Passenger 2 out of 5 stars. The basic concept of the book was good, but I did not like the final product (if you need something to help you sleep, then you have found the right book). The Passenger contains extreme violence and foul language (and large quantities of alcohol). I received a complimentary copy of The Passenger in exchange for an honest review of the book.

Full Review at silversolara.blogspot.com Had Tanya killed her husband or did she just happen upon him and panic about what to do? After she found her husband dead at the bottom of the stairs, Tanya took off and met a bad-news bartender named Blue. After she met Blue, Tanya could be found running from city to city, scanning the obituaries, visiting funeral homes, and stealing wallets and credit cards to get herself a new identity. THE PASSENGER will keep you turning the pages as fast as Tanya moved from place to place and changed her identity...and that is quickly. You will be guessing her story until the last page. Every time you turned the page a new twist and surprise was there to greet you. As every review has said: "It was a "wild" ride" and a ride that I really enjoyed. This is my first book by Ms. Lutz, but she definitely packs a book with intrigue, a terrific storyline, and interesting characters. Mystery lovers and lovers of psychological thrillers won't want to miss reading THE PASSENGER. The book had me glued to the pages and had me wanting to know what Tanya would do next. 5/5 This book was given to me free of charge and without compensation in return for an honest review.

Lisa Lutz is best known for her series, The Spellman Files, but I came to this stand-alone story brand new, and can tell you that it’s fresh and original, a real kick in the pants. Thank you Simon and Schuster, and thank you too, Net Galley, for the DRC. I picked this thing up and then hardly put it down, but my review had to wait awhile in order to be within the courtesy-window of no more than three months from publication. And it gave me some time to think. Here’s our premise: Tanya Pitts is a married woman until her husband, Frank, falls down the stairs and dies, and then she is a widow. We don’t know if he had a heart attack; if he tripped and hit his head or broke his neck; all we know is that Tanya is innocent of killing him. Yet instead of staying put, phoning 911, and sitting back to collect the life insurance and either keep the house or sell it, she chooses to run. Now why would she do such a thing? The pacing is amazing and the story, though it strains credulity briefly, is fresh and original. Full review is on Word Press at Seattle Book Mama.
