La Organizaci n Mundial de la Salud ha postulado que aproximadamente el 80% de la poblaci n mundial depende de la medicina tradicional para la atenci n primaria de la salud. La resistencia de los microorganismos pat genos a los antibi ticos ha provocado que las investigaciones se dirijan hacia la b squeda de actividad antibacteriana de las plantas medicinales. En este trabajo se evalu la actividad bactericida a las concentraciones de 250, 500 y 1000 μg/mL, toxicidad con Artemia salina y citotoxicidad con la l nea celular VERO, identificaci n parcial de la presencia de compuestos qu micos de los extractos metan licos de diez plantas medicinales del norte de M xico con actividad biol gica contra bacterias pat genas de aislados cl nicos (AC) y de cepa de referencia (CR). Se evaluaron los extractos metan licos de las especies Leucophyllum frutescens, Fouquieria splendens, Tecoma stans, Euphorbia antisyphylitica, Loeselia mexicana, Tagetes lucida, Phoenix dactylifera, Agave americana y Flourencia cernua. Todas las especies mostraron inhibici n contra las bacterias excepto Acacia farnesiana.
