A great book. The story of Hugh Herr, and his amazing recovery from losing both legs below the knee to once again being a top climber. Alison Osius's detailed and non-sentimental approach is perfect - a great story that needs not embellishment or saccharine sweetness.
Hugh was a young "tiger" rock climber when he lost his lower legs to frostbite. We are taken through the pain, doubt, frustration, depression and finally triumph from a close-in, intimate point of view. Hugh overcomes so many obstacles to again become a top climber - and then moves on - going to college and becoming a professor at MIT and a leading researcher in developing advanced prosthetics.
Inspiring. Amazing. Just really, really good. I'm dissappointed it did not become a classic, because it deserves it.
