Relive your childhood (or maybe Grandpa's childhood!). These old pulp stories of The Shadow are a wonderful afternoon read. From an era steeped in adventure and superstition and desperate for hero figures, the author grips the reader by the wide lapels on page one and drags him through to the end. You can taste the darkness and grime of the streets described in the stories. Unfortunately the worst of the era also peeks its ugly head out ... blatant racism and sexism. Its not as troublesome when absorbed in the timeline in which it was written, yet certainly shocks as the terms first appear. Reprinted exactly as it was 70 years ago and including the same illustrations. A great gift for someone who's a fan of the old radio shows.
