Powell's Staff: New Literature in Translation: December 2022 and January 2023 (0 comment)
It may be a new year, this may be a list of new books, but our love for literature in translation hasn’t changed at all, and we are so pleased to be enthusiastically recommending these recent releases. On this list, you’ll find a Spanish novel where controversy swirls around a Coca-Cola billboard...

Now Miles and Niles will do just about anything to get their old antagonist back--including pranking alongside him.
Authors and friends Mac Barnett and Jory John "are in perfect comic harmony" (Publishers Weekly) in this series that celebrates inventiveness, friendship, and the power of teamwork--for good, or for terrible.

Synopsis

Two pranksters are better than one in the second book in the hilarious New York Times bestselling series by Mac Barnett and Jory John

Miles Murphy and Niles Sparks are great at being terrible.

Nearly every day the fearsome pranking duo turns Yawnee Valley Science and Letters Academy upside down with their stunts. The Big Chirp. The Cafeteria Calamity. Their pranks bring joy to their classmates and embarrassment to their nemesis: blowhard Principal Barkin.

But one day--school picture day, to be precise--a scheme goes too far, and Principal Barkin ends up fired. His replacement: Principal Barkin Senior, the principal's no-nonsense father. The new principal runs the school with an iron fist, out to destroy all signs of fun. No group work. No Pajama Day. And definitely no pranking.

In this second book in the sly and silly illustrated series, bestselling authors Mac Barnett and Jory John prove once again that pranks in the hands of the powerless can be tools of justice--and hilarity.

Home School Book Review , January 20, 2016 (view all comments by Home School Book Review)
Aside from a few common euphemisms and childish slang terms (heck, darn, confound you, and “super-strong butt muscles”) and a reference to a school dance, the biggest objection which I, along with some other reviewers, noted was that in The Terrible Two the pranks were fairly harmless, but, while no one dies, in the sequel some of them seem a little more mean-spirited. For example, the boys put a very hot ghost pepper in the new Principal Barkin’s coffee mug. The prank actually doesn’t work, but for some people with certain health conditions that could be rather dangerous. Also, they drop someone’s pants during the last day of school assembly. A lot of people may find the idea of pantsing a person to be funny, but a lot of others think that it crosses the line because it’s vulgar and humiliating. The final verdict is that I really did not care for the book.
