Bill O'Neal is an excellent author. Pink Higgins' story captivates the reader telling the story of a man who would never back down from any man. He chose to ranch on the White River approximately 12 miles southwest of Spur Texas where he ended a lifelong feud with the Horrells when he faced off with Billy Standifer. You will have to read the book to learn of that fateful day in October when Billy came looking to kill him. When I visit Billy's grave on a lonely hillside overlooking the river I wonder if Pink buried him deep or in a shallow grave. A plain headstone marks his grave which simply states, "killed by Pink Higgins". The book covers much more than this event and will keep you turning the pages with awe.
