The Last Lecture "The Last Lecture" is a book filled with living-life-to-the-fullest advice from a college professor. While to some this might sound as interesting as reading a doctoral dissertation, you'd be surprised. The author, Randy Pausch, a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon who was diagnosed with terminal cancer, writes so well that you'd probably let him teach you about computers too. Some things he talks about include: remember to laugh, seizing every moment, overcoming obstacles, appreciate the gifts you recieve, and enabling the dreams of others. Although the author died this year, his wisdom will no doubt be around awhile in this very enlightening book. Other books in this genre I liked include "Finding Happiness in a Frustrating World".

An inspirational book on lessens in life. It grew out of a lecture that Prof. Randy Pausch gave at Carnegie Mellon titled "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" in September 2007. The premise of the "Last Lecture" series is that professors would talk as if it was the last lecture they would ever give and the last chance to pass on wisdom. In Professor Pausch's case, however, it was to be his last lecture at CMU. After battling pancreatic cancer for more than a year, he had been given the prognosis a month before the lecture that he had 3-6 months to live - leaving not only a wife but three children under 6 years old. It was a lecture about life, not about dying. "The Last Lecture" book was written for his children to be able to pass on lessons that he will not be around to teach in person. But we are all privileged to read it and learn. It will have two meanings for all of us - as he continues to battle this disease (as of April 17,2007 still fighting and passed the 6-month prognosis), and a powerful legacy after he is gone.
