This is one of the best books I've read. I was going to add "in the past few years" but that qualifier doesn't really apply. It's one of the best books I've read, period. Rebecca Lee uses language so beautifully that I found myself going back and rereading passages just for the joy that a particular description or observation evoked in me. The stories are quickly paced, but finely observed, with an underlying depth of emotional honesty that sneaks up on you quietly and powerfully. I read some passages to my 14 year old son and found myself crying as I read them - thinking about our mortality and the fragility (and beauty) of our path through life.

This is an exquisite collection by Rebecca Lee. Each story is able to contain a great amount of emotion. In short fiction, every sentence has to count, and Lee is able to construct beautiful sentences that pack a lot of punch. The characters are memorable and relatable, and yet there is a hint of the exotic, the unknown, uncomfortable, and unfamiliar, in each story. I read these stories hungrily, and felt very content when I finished the book. I look forward to reading more of Lee's work in the future.

Gorgeous book. One of the most interesting short story collections this year. Rebecca is a brilliant observer of small human imperfections and wonderful writer.
