Lessons in Leadership From the Saints: Called to Holiness, Called to Lead
by
Bj Gonzalvo
Cheri
, February 27, 2018
Christians and Catholics Will Come Away With A Greater Understanding Of Leadership “The path to saintliness and leadership is a road less traveled because it is no walk in the park; but it is, nonetheless, a road that we are all called to take.” There are many books on leadership. There are many Christian books on leadership. However, there is usually a missing ingredient – Jesus the ultimate leader and the added bonus here, of what can the saints teach us. This is not your typical view of leadership. Any follower of Christ knows we are called to something more. No, most of us wouldn’t consider striving for sainthood, but neither did the saints, yet we are called to be leaders. Gonzalvo masterfully has written this unique and thought-provoking prospective teaching that leadership and saintliness goes hand in hand and how we must strive to attain both. What I originally thought was just a Catholic prospective, proved me wrong, as there is something here for anyone who is a follower of Jesus Christ. I’ve read many books on leadership only to come away disappointed. This however, is more than I could have hoped for. Gonzalvo doesn’t just teach us about the saints, but becomes our mentor, inspiring us to become more. His writing style is light and simple enough for anyone to understand. He creatively combines Catholic and Christian teachings to give us, the reader the ultimate leadership guide. This has become my favorite leadership book and one that I will be referring to over and over again. Whether you are Christian or Catholic you will come away with a better understanding of what leadership truly means. Highly recommended must read on leadership.

Scripture Comes Alive! Powerfully Engaging, Awe-Inspiring, Life-Changing Exceptional Novel!!! “I’ve held a sword in my hand, seen a demon, and I’ve recognized the reality of what really goes on behind the scenes. My life is never going to be the same again.” The Elite Commander is calling up an army. Not just any army, an army of those who may be considered unworthy. But God calls the unworthy and makes them worthy. Anthony, who faced the end of a gun before answering the call. His sister, Janet, always served the Lord, but lacked courage and boldness. Michael is facing prison for drunk driving and killing 3 people. His wife, Deborah who loves God, but whose life has been shattered by Michael’s drinking and rage. However, all now stand ready to face the demons of darkness with sword and armor, ready to take on the call God has placed on them. Warriors in God’s army. The question is who will be called next will it be Anthony’s wife Becky and young son Ben? Who else will be called to Ohio to join the team? What demons will they encounter –fear, hostility, despair and sorrow or others? Only time will tell… What an amazing book! Spiritual warfare with the demons of darkness, humans called out from the pit of despair, God’s grace and forgiveness, the authority of God’s name, the power of the Holy Spirit, everyday people becoming superheroes and there is even more to this book to even list! I’ve always felt Christian novels needed to be more than a sweet, clean story. They need to cause us to ponder and think- walking away changed and Yeral does not fail, In fact he more than exceeded my expectations. Christian readers will be inspired, encouraged and captivated by this outstanding book. The characters are real and engaging, the writing superb. Scripture came alive before my very eyes. “Left Behind”, “The Screwtape Letters”, “The Shack” and “This Present Darkness” rolled into one epic novel that I couldn’t put down. I wasn’t the same after reading “Awareness” (and this is only book one!) and I guarantee no one else will be either. Pondering the question, are we ready to answer the call? Remarkable must read for all Christians and those seeking.

Destination Earth A New Philosophy of Travel by a World Traveler
by
Nicos Hadjicostis
Cheri
, December 05, 2017
Life And The World Are Meant To Be Experienced... “Travel is expansion, widening, opening-up. It is the conquering of one’s fears, insecurities, prejudices. It is the hovering above one’s life, past and present, and seeing it in the larger context of the world. It is the fierce struggle against our already formed concepts of the ‘other’; the vanquishing of our dearly held beliefs, of what is familiar, intimate, cherished.” Travel is more than visiting a place with a set itinerary. Travel is becoming lost in the culture, the beauty, the history and yes one’s own self. Let’s be honest, if the reader is seeking a travel book that one may sit and read about the world or a plan to take a trip this isn’t it. It’s a how-to, not just how to see the world, but to feel it, breathe it, experience it fully. It’s a life philosophy of discovering one’s own self within the scope of the world. Where the world becomes a single destination where one can experience the past, present and the future within it’s boundaries and never leave the planet. It is “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” meets philosophy and the great explorers. It’s seeing the world we live in, opening our minds to the concept of eight continents instead of seven. It is more than a travel book, more than philosophy; it is deeper than the religions of the world all rolled into one. I have to be honest; I wasn’t sure about this book when I first began reading. However, Nicos has a way with words that captures the imagination that gave me a hunger and set me on a world quest to experience life in my own current surroundings as well as the desire to see myself within the world. I found I couldn’t put this book down. I wanted to not only read, but also absorb and meditate upon each word. I loved the little stories of Nicos’ own travel experiences that were more than just simple adventures, but discoveries within themselves. Even each chapter’s footnotes are not to be missed, giving more detail on quotes, further discussions and more. The pictures not only capture nature’s beauty, but seeing real life in other parts of our globe – whether day-to-day activities, funerals, religious ceremonies or university students taking a break. Life and the world are meant to be experienced and through the words, thoughts and philosophies of Nicos Hadjicostis we do just that. Deep, powerful, inspiring must read. “…as a wolf searches and finds its deer, and as a bird finds its seeds, every human finds what his body and mind searches for.”

Latches Onto The Heart And Won't Let Go!! It’s 1972 in Cape Cod and Chirp just turned eleven. She has no worries as summer is carefree. With bird-watching in the woods, throwing rocks with Joey, dancing in the rain with her sister Rachel and her mother-childhood where each new day is full of fun and adventures. But all is about to change as Rachel turns thirteen and turns teenager and her mother, who is a dancer, becomes sick. But Chirp believes nothing will change -her mother will get better and she will dance again. After her parents tell the girls the diagnosis is MS- Chirp believes if she just feels the soft warmth of her mother’s hand she knows everything will be alright. As she slowly touches her mother’s hand instead of the soft warmth she expects, her mother’s hand is cold and clammy and Chirp knows now that everything has changed…. Ehrlich writes a poignant, sweet, loving tale of carefree days of childhood and of growing up. I loved the friendship between Chirp and Joey. Joey is the abused boy who lives across the street and as problems seem to surround their lives it turns out the two need each other. Ehrlich’s debut novel is so movingly beautiful but sad as proof that childhood is not always easy. I was carried away to childhood once again- living it through the eyes of Chirp and Joey. Wanting to take their pain away and give them that carefree childhood once again. I love the escape that Chirp creates in like a bird she makes a nest in her room that I am sure all can relate to as even adults want to escape from the problems of the world. Written for ten and up I highly recommend for preteen, teen and adult as this one is so special there is something here for everyone. Believe me this one creeps into your thoughts and into your heart and won’t let go long after the story ends.

Natural Liver Flush: 7-Day Liver Cleanse Diet to Revitalize Your Health, Detox Your Body, and Reverse Fatty Liver
by
Julia Grady

, September 08, 2014
Jumpstart Your Liver to Ultimate Health!! There are so many things about our bodies we don’t know. We always seem to hear about heart health but our liver is just as vital as our heart. But not much information is out there in order to help our liver function properly. I personally learned so much from this great resource. It is so informatively detailed without being overwhelming. It is like reading a medical book for the average person and Grady does it well. I never realized that the liver is the largest internal organ and all its functions. I was totally surprised to learn what can overload your liver such as medicines, caffeine, sugar and processed foods. But equally amazed at what that overload can lead to such as poor sleep, headaches, sinus problems and heartburn. Excellent is the detailed info on the foods to avoid and foods that will support your liver function. I loved the chapter on what herbs and supplements to incorporate into your lifestyle. But the liver flush is amazing! Grady teaches us to use simple and easy-to-find ingredients and in seven days you can jumpstart your liver to function properly again with even some other surprise benefits. The great thing is you won’t feel like you are starving to death while detoxing! Overall I couldn’t get enough of this excellent resource that belongs in everyone’s home that if followed will clear the way to ultimate health of your liver!!

Essential Oils for Beginners: The Complete Guide to Getting Started with Essential Oils and Aromatherapy
by
Julia Grady
Cheri
, September 08, 2014
The Only Guidebook to Essential Oils You Will Ever Need!! Many of us have heard of aromatherapy but like me weren’t sure how to begin. What scents do what, are they really safe, etc. The title states for beginners but it’s really a complete guidebook for beginners and anyone even for those who have been using essential oils for many years. I found this is the only guidebook you will ever need. Not only do we learn the history and science but also the benefits, buying and storing as well as application and that is all before we get into the oils themselves! The A to Z guide is amazing giving us a comprehensive look into to each type of essential oil but also the characteristics, properties, uses, blends and precautions. This is more thorough and in-depth than any book I’ve read on the subject. But Grady doesn’t stop there. We also have recipe blends covering everything from ailments to cleaners and bug repellants to even essential oils for your pets. At the end of the book is another index on symptoms and what essential oils to use. Personally I highly recommend this book as I don’t believe there is a better one out there on aromatherapy and essential oils that can do what this one does. Clearly Grady has outdone herself in compiling this one together. I bought the kindle edition but this is one book you may need both versions to refer to again and again.

Encounter With the Aberdeen Wildman
by
Frank J. Bennett
Cheri
, August 24, 2014
It was a time of cultural change and paranormal is on the rise with Satanism, witchcraft and Bigfoot sightings. Bennett lives near Big Gunpowder Falls in Baltimore County, Maryland. Growing up he encounters his own paranormal of the unknown and the “Aberdeen Wildman”. Here lies his story. Bennett creatively writes with a unique flair as if the reader is seeing the story through his eyes. What starts out as a coming of age story with paranormal sightings turns to the author’s own investigation into the unknown. As a Christian I loved the writer’s way of comparing God’s word to the supernatural, demons and the unknown giving us the readers a unique way of perceiving this subject. I like that Bennett is a serious writer but when needed he can be humorously entertaining. There is too much information within the pages to just read casually or lightly. A book that I know I will read over and over again as there is too much to learn in one reading. This is definitely one to read with the Bible in one hand and this book in the other as Bennett has a remarkable way of bring forth the truth. I highly recommend for anyone interested in paranormal and the unknown but equally for the Christian that have questions to ask for Bennett and God’s word have the answers!!

The Apostle: Destiny
by
Hiler, Dylan
Cheri
, July 15, 2014
Fairwillow seems to be a quiet, peaceful town but under the double moons of Dawn and Vera it is quietly, slowly erupting from within. The heart of it all is Sath and Elle Eden. They have three children Raios, Mercy and Dield. The known witch of Fairwillow, Famora, spoke a prophecy of destiny over Raios before he was born and has been a troubled child ever since. With a strike of a mighty pen Hiler has created a unique fantasy that is filled with mystery, suspense and intrigue as he whisks his readers to another time and place that you’ll never want to leave. I love the development of the relationships within the storyline gathered around Sath the farmer, a mighty man within his community and beyond. Sath the friend as the development of friendship grows with Orick the carpenter. Sath the kind, loving husband and the changes that relationship brings. Than Sath the father and how he struggles with his oldest son Raios. I love the character developments that grow at a pleasing pace and the raw deep emotion of the storyline. Especially unique as there is no main character but the Eden family as a whole evolves to become the main characters. There are so many underlying lessons to learn that one doesn’t want to miss a thing. Powerful, raw, emotional more in one book than a reader could ever desire. Personally I have to read the next one as a fiction story this is truly amazing but as a series one can only imagine where this could lead. Five stars yes but if I could give ten I would as this is by far one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time. So whether you are a lover of the genre of fantasy or looking for a unique, outstanding fiction don’t miss “The Apostle: Destiny”.

The PAST
by
Marwane Caber
Cheri
, June 04, 2014
As a lifelong sufferer of depression and someone who has read numerous books on this subject, I finally found the book that I needed to set me on the right track. I loved that it is not the usual textbook garble but based on Caber’s own journey. I felt comfortable reading as though I was speaking with a friend and not a psychiatrist. The book is concise with only eighty-two pages but don’t let that fool you as there is much to be learned. It is not the usual self-help book but I see it as a guidebook for life. If asked what my favorite parts are that would be hard to say as I enjoyed the whole book. But to narrow it down chapter one is by far where I learned the most. Not only did I realize the control my past has had on my life setting me on a roller coaster ride of happiness and sadness but the impact that bad memories can play on the present but also the future. Secondly was how to determine who I am not the control the past has had or how I compare to others but simply stated “me”. I could go on but this book is so good one must read for themselves and see how easy it is to apply and change their own lives just as I have begun. I’ve learned a lot in just one reading so clearly it is a book that should be read over and over again. I would highly recommend “The Past” to anyone who suffers from depression.

Jesus Bible-NIV: Discover Jesus in Every Book of the Bible
by

It’s hard to find a good Bible for middle-age kids. There are plenty to choose from for younger kids and teenagers but it seems the middle-agers or nine to twelve year-olds it’s hard for a Bible to hold their attention. Here is the answer the perfect Bible for your kids! As a Sunday school teacher I am excited about this new kids Bible from Zondervan. It clearly has everything necessary in an adult Bible but in a kid format. This great Bible has it all from timelines, maps, devotions, concordance and so much more. I really love “the simplified family tree of Jesus” since even most adults don’t like reading this and this breaks it down into an easy format. The devotions are excellent spread throughout but there is also an easy index in a unique section of Study Helps in the back of the book. I say unique as study helps are unusual for a kids Bible. I highly recommend this outstanding kids Bible. I know the age recommendation is for nine to twelve year olds but I would recommend for eight through teenage as this would be perfect as a child’s first big boy or big girl Bible and last through adulthood. I love the cover that will surely get your child’s attention and start them on a lifetime of reading God’s Word.

Heaven and Hell: Are They Real?
by
Christopher D. Hudson
Cheri
, March 24, 2014
The belief of heaven and hell changes from person to person even from Christian to Christian. But here is the truth clearly to set the record straight. Not only do we learn if they exist but what we can expect. Whatever questions you may have the answers are here. The book is divided into two parts the first being on heaven. All our questions are answered such as what happens after death, what life will be like in heaven and what will heaven look like. In part two we learn about hell with answers to questions like is hell a choice, why there is a hell and what will hell be like. Outstandingly written Hudson has included information from all the greats C.S. Lewis, Randy Alcorn, John McArthur, R. C. Sproul, God Himself plus many, many more. There is not a better book on the subject as you have all the information ever needed put into one book. Easy to read without the usual commentary lingo usually found on these subjects and concise being less than three hundred pages. Excellent study guide to read with your Bible to see what God says or read alone as an in depth look at heaven and hell. Highly recommend for teens and adults, Christian or non-Christian. Also would make an excellent ministry tool to reach the unsaved. This book is so outstanding it should be on every Christian’s bookshelf but on their e-reader too to be referenced again and again.

A Counterfeit Priest
by
Paul Cross
Cheri
, February 07, 2014
“The truth is often hidden Henry, and many times when found, it’s still not recognized.” Henry Hawkins is a documentary filmmaker bent on exposing the truth and this one is personal. Not wanting to go against his wife Julie’s memory or her faith yet he wants to expose the Catholic Church for their responsibility in her death and the death of their baby. Julie agreed with the church’s teachings against birth control. After becoming pregnant they find they had to make a choice the baby’s life or Julie’s. According to church teachings and Julie’s wishes she wanted the baby to live-days later the baby dies too. Two years later Hawkins begins his quest for the truth. Arriving in Italy with a letter from Cardinal Contini Secretary of State of the Vatican Henry hopes it’s all he needs to meet with the Cardinal. After run-ins with the guards and the Press Office Henry finds he is no closer to the Vatican than when he was in Los Angeles. After a strange set of events Henry finds himself working as Contini’s secretary. Henry can’t believe his luck as he is on his way to have the truth he seeks especially when he starts finding out Contini’s secrets. Cardinal Contini, who is known as the red pope, seems to have the virtue of Judas as he puts money ahead of the things of God to obtain a rich profit. Than the Pope dies and Henry finds himself sequestered with the College of Cardinals and their secretaries determining who will be the next Pope, an inside look that very few ever see. Is this all luck or is the Holy Spirit on his side time will tell as the race is on to get the truth he seeks or is exposed as the counterfeit priest. A different perspective of the internal workings of the Vatican and the political process of voting in a new pope mixed with the intrigue of suspense of Henry’s escapades. So well written and executed one has to wonder is this truth or fiction. Cross has an outstanding way with word descriptions that leap off the page and draws the reader into the sights, sounds and even the smells. Add fully developed characters that seem so real, a rich plot full of twists and turns as well as a surprise ending and you have a novel that just can’t miss.

What does your bathroom, office, bedroom or quorks say about you? How do you rate on the OCEAN scale of openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism? Find out this and so much more in this book called “Snoop”. Learn how to be a snooper to snoop out a person you’ve just met, a first date or even old friend s. See how little clues about yourself or someone else can give away so much. Author Sam Gosling takes you on a remarkable journey in the how-tos of becoming a snooper. This is an easy to read guide into the scientific tests used to understand people on a bigger scale. Amazingly, even though written by a college professor, this book does not read like a text book which is one of the excellent great points about this book. Even though it doesn’t read like a textbook this book would still be perfect for a classroom study or individual studies in the world of human behavior. Gosling is not a novice to this idea but has been researching the human traits for ten years. Using such tests as OCEAN, Test of Familiarity or OCQ Over-Claiming Questionnaire and Self-Deceptive Enhancement as well as working with other professors, scientists and students have proven that even in the secret lives of bedroom closets, under beds, messy or not desks, web pages, or even handshakes just about everything about our everyday lives can tell others who we really are. So bottom line this is an outstanding read whether for research or just plain fun check out “Snoop” and become a super snooper!

Returning from the War on Terrorism: What Every Veteran Needs to Know to Receive Your Maximum Benefits
by
Brown, Bruce C.
Cheri
, August 27, 2008
Do you as a veteran or active-duty military know about what benefits are available to you? In this unique book you will find the answers you are seeking and need to know. Such as this small sampling GI Bill scholarships, grants, eligibility, apprenticeship programs, details of VA loans, education and training programs, VA home loans, vocational rehabilitation and employment, homeless veterans, and frequently asked questions. Also there are staggering statistics such as there are 1.6 million servicemen and women who have fought in the war on terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq. The one most alarming is that it is estimated that 200,000 veterans may be homeless. The most important reason why is veterans donât know that help is available through government and state programs to assist them. This book is written mainly for those servicemen and women who have served in the war on terrorism but is equally beneficially for other vets as well. An excellent easy to read resource for military and their families to read and refer to time and time again. Written by author Bruce C. Brown who is currently serving his twenty-fourth year in the U. S. Coast Guard has definitely done his homework concerning the benefits available to active military personal and veterans. Author of five books and awards he has definitely provided an outstanding resource in obtaining your maximum benefits available. This is one book that should be in the home of every veteran and active military and their families since there is so much available that all should be aware of what is available to them at any given time.
