Joy of Pickling Revised Edition 250 Flavor Packed Recipes for Vegetables & More from Garden or Market

If I were a food writer, my nom de plume would be I. M. Pickling and I would blog about chutney. And this is the excellent book that would have sent me down that deliciously sour, yet simple path. Chris Kimball, publisher of Cooks Illustrated and host of the PBS series "America's Test Kitchen," wrote the forward and, as usual, he is right on. This book contains all the information you need to get pickling - quickly, easily, safely and inexpensively. Linda Ziedrich's instructions are clear and easy to follow, and her recipes will appeal to practically every palate - there's everything from basic dills to Indian-style pickled cauliflower and inventive kimchis. Whether you're putting up bushel after bushel, or simply brining a quart or two, this is a fun read and a great resource.

The City and the House
by
Natalia Ginzburg
Heldora
, August 04, 2012
Natalia Ginzburg (1916 - 1991) was an Italian novelist, essayist, and prominent anti-Fascist who was elected to the Italian Parliament in 1983. “La città e la casa” was published in 1984; Dick Davis’s English translation, “The City and the House,” appeared in 1986. In an earlier essay this writer states, "At the center of our life is the question of human relations," and Ginzburg’s treatment of her characters and their deteriorating lives in this novel is typical of her earlier work - realism and understated humor in a style which eschews "too many descriptions; I can't bear descriptions in novels." This is an excellent introduction to one of Italy’s most beloved writers.
