Revelation of Louisa May
by

This was such a fun story about one of my favorite authors, Louisa May Alcott. Louisa becomes an amateur sleuth in the "Revelation of Louisa May" Louisa is working towards being a famous author. But there are several roadblocks to her writing. She gets tied up in caring for her father, discovering a person who is seeking shelter with the Underground Railroad, and a romantic entanglement. Fun, mysterious, rich in historical background. This a must for any reader who loves Alcott and historical fiction.

Cavendon Hall

This was a great find for me. I have been doing a run on British Historical fiction, books, audio and movies, and this was a gem. If you like Downton Abbey, you will enjoy this. Two families, the Inghams and the Swanns, whose lives are in-twined, closer than servant and master, that one is rich and privileged and the other poor. WWI is coming. There are secrets, forbidden love and tested loyalty The setting and clothing descriptions are sumptuous. Listening to the audio was an added bonus. The various character voices were rich, defined, and easy to listen to. This is my number 1 historical fiction fave for 2017.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong The Chronicles of St Marys Book Six
by

If you could read only one series this year....this is it! The Chronicles of St. Mary's is addictive! Enjoying book 6, (have to go back to books 2 and 3) I have never laughed so much, as this group of time-traveling historians muck up every trip they go on. Start reading, and you will find... romance, sci-fi, history, humor, adventure and just plain craziness. When I need a pick-me-up, this is what I grab. Even with the sad and tragic portions of the stories, I would still recommend this series as the one to read when you need something "different".

New York 2140
by
Kim Stanley Robinson

I really enjoyed the format of New York 2140. This is a book that needs your full attention, or you will miss an important detail. Although lengthy, 613 pages...I recommend this book to all serious readers. The assorted characters are listed as (a,b,c,d etc) with their stories of what is happening to them, after a global-warming apocalypse-- which changes the landscape of New York City! Every skyscraper becomes an island! The book jacket is amazing and causes me to want to see a movie made from this book! There are snippets of quotes from other authors, throughout the book; word definitions and how they are changed due to this catastrophe. So interesting...a must read for all sci-fi lovers and readers of "it could happen" genre.

Mister Max...a story of discovery...of one's self and others. Max Starling, son of the owners of the Starling Theatrical Company is in for the adventure of a life time. His parents have disappeared. With the help of his theatre background, Max has to become many different characters, to solve many unique problems, while trying to find his missing parents. He names himself, the Solutioneer! Max accumulates a variety of interesting friends along the way...Pia, a school friend; Ari, a teacher with a secret; Joachim, an artist; and Gabrielle, a sweetshop owner, and sweetheart of Ari. Very enjoyable, and a great read for young boys and girls. I can't wait to read book 2 in the trilogy.

Rain Reign

I started reading this at the library, and couldn't put it down! What an intriguing tale. Rain is a stray dog who finds a home with Rose, who is autistic, and loves homonyms--like the name she gave her dog,Rain (reign, rein). You will cry over her trials at school, smile at her dialogue, filled with homonyms, and cheer for her perseverance and strong will despite her autism. Her teachers, father and Uncle Weldon all play a big part in her life and influence the way she reacts to situations. It is a good book to share with children of all ages. We are all different and understanding, along with acceptance, is so important.

The Seems: The Split Second
by
Michael Wexler

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. So much so, I then listened to it on audio. I have suggested it to many of our patrons at the Library, young and old! I was enchanted by the idea of a world that makes sure our world keeps ticking as it should!. Due to the volume of books I read, any particulars escape me, but the main character, Becker, a Fixer in the world-behind-our-world has many adventures, as he tries to fix a glitch in (the Dept. of Sleep, in Book One) the various depts. that make sure our world runs smoothly.. This format was a new concept to me. I hope to read more from this author.
