The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane by Michelle Griep is the third book in her Blackfriars Lane series. This is the continuing story of Kit and Jackson. Kit now runs a detective agency with her father and Jackson is the new chief inspector of his police station. When Kit accepts a case involving a missing child, all their lives are endangered! This was a very gripping story. There was so much going on. Kit and Jackson’s love for each other was very obvious through-out the story. The time period was very well described. You felt like you were actually there. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

Tracking the Truth
by
Dana Mentink
Kim Potter
, April 10, 2024
Tracking the Truth by Dana Mentink is the first book in her Security Hounds Investigations series. Emery Duncan almost drowned in a lake when someone threw her overboard but private investigator Roman Wolfe rescued her. Now, that same someone doesn’t want her finding out what really happened to her sister. To keep Emery and her baby nephew safe, Roman must use all his resources including his quirky bloodhound, Wally! The action began from page one and continued until the very end. This was a nail-biter for sure! Wally was the showstopper. His indifference to Roman was hilarious! A much-needed reprieve from the intense suspense of the story. This was a great beginning to the series. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

What I Promise You by Liz Tolsma is the second book in her Echoes of the Past series. This is a dual time-frame story. In 1942 Noemie Treves is arrested and sent to a transit camp. In 2022 Caitlyn Laurant is dealing with the aftermath of a tragic accident. In training to be a missionary nurse, Caitlyn travels to France to visit her grandfather’s birthplace. But, her search becomes complicated by the events that transpired in 1942. We see first hand the tragedy that war brings with the telling of Noemie’s story. Beneath a Peaceful Moon by Debby Lee is the tenth book in the multi-author Heroines of WWll series. Mary Wishram is looking for information about her brother, who is a POW in the Philippine Islands. Working at Camp Pendleton and training to become a spy will hopefully help. John Painted Horse is asked to join the Code Talkers at Camp Pendleton. Together they will use their language skills to help end the war. This story had so much potential. I was very disappointed that there wasn’t much information on the Code Talker program. Mary wasn’t very convincing as a spy. The whole story just didn’t seem to blend very well. I did enjoy John’s spiritual input and his encouragement of Mary. Code Name Edelweiss
by
Stephanie Landsem
Kim Potter
, March 13, 2023
Code Name Edelweiss by Stephanie Landsem is a stand-alone novel set in Hollywood during the summer of 1933. Liesl Weiss is a secretary at MGM. After losing her job, she goes to work for Leon Lewis, a Jewish lawyer. But working for him could get Liesl and her whole family killed. This story covers a time period in history that’s not widely covered; when the Nazis planned to take over Hollywood. The story was a little slow paced. There were spots of suspense. Liesl seemed to be a very unlikely heroine, but she got the job done. Her motto was, “If not us, who? If not now, when?” For a Christian fiction story there were a lot of secular things going on. Overall, it was a pretty good story. DISCLAIMER: There was a lot of drinking, smoking, inappropriate dressing, and using feminine wiles to get information from men. I received this book from LibraryThing for my honest review.

Yesterday’s Tides by Roseanna M. White is a stand-alone novel. Set in two time frames; it’s the stories of two very courageous resilient women! Louisa Adair’s story is set in 1914 during the first world war. She falls in love with an Englishman who is visiting her quaint little island inn during the summer. In 1942, Evie Farrow falls in love with a man who washes up on her beach. The Bride of Blackfriars Lane by Michelle Griep is the second book in her Blackfriars Lane series. As Kit Turner’s wedding day approaches, she wants to give her groom, Detective Jackson Forge, the perfect wedding gift; justice and the answers to a family mystery. But her investigation starts a series of events that will have devastating consequences. The storyline was good. I just had a hard time getting past all the pettiness between Kit and Jackson. There was no give and take, no communication; all they wanted to do was control and blame each other. The story had potential that wasn’t accessed. In Honor’s Defense by Karen Witemeyer is the third book in her Hanger’s Horsemen series. Luke Davenport is asked to track down some cattle rustlers. With the other Horsemen busy with their personal lives, he is on his own. Damaris Baxter moves to Texas to take care of her nephew after the death of her brother. When her path crosses with Luke’s it seems Luke may have found his home. I was sad that this was the final Horseman story. I loved this series. The brotherhood, the camaraderie, the fight for justice is something we all long for. It didn’t hurt that there was romance awaiting each man. We could use more heroes today! Sarah Drayton goes to spend some time with her best friend and ends up in a marriage of convenience with her friend’s brother. Sarah doubted her self worth. She longed to be loved. What mysteries will she uncover as she researches the inscription on the inside of the ring? The story started off kind of slow; but it picked up and kept you riveted until the final chapter. Shadowed Loyalty

Shadowed Loyalty by Roseanna M. White is a stand-alone novel set during the Roaring Twenties. Sabina Mancari has always known that her father was a mob boss but she didn’t pay that much attention until she is caught in the cross-fire. Usually, stories are written from the perspective of outside of the Mafia looking in but this story is written from the inside looking out. To me this was a big departure from Ms. White’s usual writing style. I felt like this was more of a secular romance than a Christian one. There were quite a few romantic scenes and topics that went a little too far. Hopefully her next book goes back to the writing style that we have come to love. In Search of a Prince by Toni Shiloh is a stand-alone novel. When Brielle Bayo learns that she is a princess, she travels to the island off the coast of Africa to meet her grandfather. Will she accept her royal responsibilities or abdicate the throne? This is the story of Brielle’s struggle to make a decision regarding her life as a royal. The storyline was very predictable. It had the feel of a movie from a few years ago. The names were hard to pronounce. I did like the character of Iris. She was a great supporting friend. The romance was a little rushed but very sweet. If you’re in the mood for a little royal intrigue then this is definitely the story for you! I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

Mrs. Witherspoon Goes to War by Mary Davis is the fourth book in the multi-author Heroines of WWll series. Peggy Witherspoon is a pilot flying for the WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots). Her duties are relatively safe, ferrying airplanes from one military base to another. But when she stumbles across information that three U.S. soldiers are being held prisoner in Cuba and that no one plans to rescue them, she is furious. She devises a secret daring rescue mission with the help of two other WASPs. If something goes wrong, they are on their own. This was an awesome story. I really enjoyed it. Starting out the author tried to use too much technical jargon about the planes and their workings but that didn’t last long. Peggy was an inspiration. Even with everything going on she still took time for others. Although she felt abandoned by God, she was finally able to see that He had been there all along! He will never leave you. Labyrinth of Lies by Irene Hannon is the second book in her Triple Threat series. Cate Reilly goes undercover at an exclusive girl’s school hoping to find out what happened to a missing teen from the school. Nothing is as straight forward as they thought and everyone is suspect. When Cate’s investigation runs into the investigation of Zeke Sloan, her old flame, everything heats up. Cate and Zeke were a very likable couple. Cate’s compassion and dedication were remarkable. The twist at the end was unexpected. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

The Cryptographer’s Dilemma by Johnnie Alexander is the first book in the Heroines of WWII series by various authors. Eloise Marshall is approached by the FBI to help break a code. What she and fellow FBI agent, Philip Clayton, uncover is a traitor giving secrets to the Japanese. This story takes you across the US and back again. You meet some interesting people along the way and learn about the different codes used during the war. Eloise and Philip made a great pair. There wasn’t a lot of heart-stopping action in the story, but it was more of an easy-read suspense. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

To Write a Wrong by Jen Turano is the second book in her Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency series. Daphne Beekman is an inquiry agent. She also writes mystery stories under an assumed name. When she takes on the attempted murder of fellow author Herman Henderson, she becomes a target too. You know when you pick up a Jen Turano book that you’re going to meet some quirky characters. Daphne is no exception! But the awesome thing is, Herman doesn’t care how different she is, he see’s the person underneath. There were plenty of suspects in the story. You never knew who to trust. I thought the ending was a little rushed. But overall a cute story. I received this book from the author for my honest review.

With the help of Erik Bryd and the Nighthawk Security Agency she hopes to prove that it wasn’t suicide. Susan Sleeman knows how to weave a riveting story! I enjoyed re-connecting with the Byrd family and getting to know Kennedy. She was such a great addition to the mix. She fit with Erik very well. The danger and suspense levels were very high and the twist at the end was one I never saw coming! I received this e-book from the author for my honest review.

Hostile Intent by Lynette Eason is the fourth book in her Danger Never Sleeps series. There’s a serial killer targeting military families. FBI agent Caden Denning is part of the task force trying to solve the case. Ava Jackson is ex-military and a great linguist. When Caden rescues Ava from an attacker in the parking lot he realizes that she might be able to help in the investigation. This story was very intense! There’s lots of action, secrets, and hidden agendas that eventually come to light. Ava was very capable of taking care of herself and she didn’t let her fears rule her life. The romance was there but not in an overwhelming abundance. DISCLAIMER: Some of the action scenes are pretty graphic. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

Now they’re on the hunt for the fugitives who seem to be always one step ahead. The chase takes you from Seattle to the San Juan Islands. I enjoyed the way Madison and Jonas worked together; always on the same page. The romance was there, but in the background and not overwhelming the suspense of the story. Bridge of Gold by Kimberley Woodhouse is a part of the Doors to the Past series. This is the story of two different couples in two different time periods. In 1933, Luke Moreau, a diver, is working on the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. His underwater discovery puts his fiancé, Margo’s life in danger. Present day, while doing repairs on the bridge the discovery of a lifetime is made. Underwater archaeologist, Kayla Richardson is hired by the mayor to unearth the find. But danger lurks around every corner. Someone doesn’t want the treasure brought to the surface and will stop at nothing to keep it for themselves. I enjoyed the different time periods. When Mark walks back into her life the sparks are soon flying. Hearing rumors of missing boys, Mark and Jonah stick around to help them. This was such a sweet story. I loved the different kids. Kate and Mark complimented each other so well. I loved the fact that Kate wasn’t some screaming, fainting heroine. When danger came her way, she said a prayer and acted in a rational manner. It was very refreshing. I can’t wait for the next book! I received this book from the author for my honest review.

The Paris Betrayal by James R. Hannibal is a stand-alone modern-day suspense novel. Ben Calix has been abandoned by his covert agency. Now on his own without all his fancy resources he must try to stop a bio attack. This story starts off with a bang in Rome and moves to the beautiful city of Paris. It’s a non-stop, James Bond kind of story. Never knowing who you can trust made each new person in the story a potential liability. Without the resources you need, how are you to save the world? I really enjoy Mr. Hannibal’s ability to weave an intriguing tale without becoming just another action story! If you love heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat suspense then pick up a copy of The Paris Betrayal. You won’t be disappointed! I received this book from the author for my honest review.

The struggles, the heartache, the hunger and fear all had me in tears. But through it all God proved faithful and they came out stronger. I enjoyed getting to know the people in the small town of Sprocket. Trinidad was a very likable person. The story-line was great and pretty fast-paced. I ate more ice cream than usual with the story taking place in an ice cream shop! The ice cream flavors sounded awesome and I enjoyed getting a behind-the-scenes look at the making of them. Lady Wynwood's Spies, volume 2: Berserker: Christian Regency Romantic Suspense serial novel

, May 28, 2021
Berserker by Camille Elliot is the second book in her Lady Wynwood’s Spies serial. In this continuation of the story the team must rescue one of their own from Apothecary Jack. This installment is mainly about that rescue, which is basically the next 24 hours from the first book. There was a lot of action in this story. With very capable heroines. I enjoyed getting to know le petit prince, master of disguises. The only draw-back was that the author kept switching from a person’s first and last names. It made it very confusing to keep up with the many characters. Other than that I really enjoyed the story. DISCLAIMER: This is a serial novel. Each part has a complete story-line, but is not a stand-alone novel. It ends in a cliffhanger! I received this e-book from the author for my honest review.

Never Miss by Melissa Koslin is a stand-alone suspense novel. Kadance Tolle is a former CIA sniper with exceptional skills. She comes from a family of paid assassins and by saving Lyndon Vaile’s life she risks the threat of them finding her. Someone wants Lyndon dead and his research into the Ebola virus destroyed. Thrust together Kadance and Lyndon race to stop the impending bio-attack at the State of the Union address. This story was very fast-paced with twists and turns everywhere. The only draw-back was all the innuendo between the characters. For a Christian novel there wasn’t a lot of mention of religion or faith. Kadance had a lot of past history to work through and with Lyndon’s help she began that journey. I’d give this story a three-star rating. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

My Dear Miss Dupr

My Dear Miss Dupre by Grace Hitchcock is the first book in her American Royalty series. Willow Dupre has six months to choose a husband from the thirty suitors competing for her hand. Can she find true love and someone to help run her father’s sugar refinery within that time frame? If not, her cousin will sell his shares to the competition. This story started out with so much potential. Willow wanted what was best for the family business and was willing to go along with her parents’ wishes even though she wasn’t comfortable with the competition. There were things that the author put in the story that you know would have never happened in that time period; which kind of ruined the book for me. The story ended too fast and we were not part of the wrapping up of all the loose ends. They were just finished. We were told about them in a couple of sentences. All in all I don’t think the story lived up to the hype. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

The Indebted Earl by Erica Vetsch is the third book in her Serendipity & Secrets series. Captain Charles Wyvern owes a huge debt to his best friend, Major Richardson, who sacrificed his life to save the captain. The Major’s dying wish was for Charles to look after his fiancé, Sophie. The guilt that Charles felt for surviving the war when Richardson didn’t is not an uncommon occurrence. When he meets Sophie that guilt is intensified. Sophie works through her grief at losing her fiancé by helping others. It was awesome to see the connection between the Captain and Sophie grow throughout the story. I loved the way that Sophie still took such good care of Mamie, even though she wasn’t her mother-in-law after all. There were a few intense action moments in the story but overall, it was a sweet romance. I received this book from Reading with Audra for my honest review.

When Twilight Breaks by Sarah Sundin is a stand-alone pre-World War 2 novel. Evelyn Brand, an American foreign correspondent, and Peter Lang, an American graduate student working on his PhD, meet in Munich in 1938. Evelyn sees thru the Nazi propaganda but she has to be very careful of what she writes or risk being expelled from the country. Peter is impressed with the order in Germany. When Peter finally sees things as they are, he and Evelyn team up, but with danger around every corner will they be able to expose the evil or be the next victims? Evelyn was such a likable character. Feminine, yet strong. Their romance developed slowly but solidly. The suspense was intense. It was as if you were watching a war-era movie. From the beginning to the end, you were drawn in and held on the edge of your seat, waiting for that other shoe to drop and the danger to increase. This was one of those stay-up-too-late-so-I-can-finish books. Another winner for Ms. Sundin.

As if that wasn’t enough to deal with, she also has an obsessed stalker after her. Emma’s ex-fiancé, Ranger Samuel Ryker is determined that nothing will happen to her as he helps her find the answers she so desperately needs. This was a page-turning thrill ride. I liked the little excerpts from the stalker that was thrown in here and there. It made the tension rise. Emma was a very strong character. She never crumbled when everything around her was falling apart. In some stories when the heroine finds out that the hero has been keeping a secret, they get all defensive and it takes many chapters to resolve everything. But Emma was able to see the reasons and act like a real person; not some melodramatic drama queen. I can’t wait for the next book! I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

Dreams of Savannah by Roseanna M. White is a stand-alone story centered around the city of Savannah, Georgia during the early days of the Civil War. Cordelia Owens loves to create stories to entertain her friends and family. When her sweetheart, Phineas Dunn goes missing during a raid on a Yankee ship, she weaves stories of his heroism to help his mother and sister cope. Can Delia and Phin’s love overcome all that the war stands for and bring them a happily ever after? Stories from this time period are always hard for me to read. But I loved Delia. Her ability to turn everything into an adventure was very amusing. And Phin’s change of outlook was certainly commendable. The romance throughout the story was very sweet but predictable; although I felt that after Phin’s return, he and Delia never really got to know each other again. The political issues that were part of the time period were handled in a truthful way that didn’t detract from the story itself. I felt that the ending was a bit abrupt and rushed though. I received this book from the author for my honest review.

A Castaway in Cornwall by Julie Klassen is a stand-alone book set in picturesque North Cornwall in the early 1800’s. Laura Callaway lives with her aunt and uncle on the coast of England. She makes it a point to walk the beach looking for things that have washed up on shore from shipwrecks along the coast. A man is washed ashore after a wreck and Laura rescues him. She takes care of him and nurses him back to health. But is he who he says he is or is he a danger to them all? I enjoyed reading about the customs of Cornwall and getting to know the people from Fern Haven. Laura was such a compassionate, loving person. And yet she was strong and resourceful. The romance between Alex and Laura was very sweet and the mystery of the story did not take away from that. Another great story from Ms. Klassen. I received this book from the author for my honest review.

Night Vision by Susan Sleeman is the second book in her Nighthawk Security series. Brendan Byrd stops a murder in the snow-covered woods of Oregon never dreaming how it would affect his life. This story has it all –a small child, Christmas, and nail-biting suspense. I really love the Byrd family. Their love and support for each other is a testament to their up-bringing. I’m always surprised that Ms. Sleeman can keep writing so many great stories that are all so different! She doesn’t disappoint with this one either. I couldn’t put the book down. The suspense was so intense with all the twists and turns that the story took; you never knew what was coming next. The ending was a total shock! I can’t wait for the next installment. I received this e-book from the author for my honest review.

To Steal a Heart

To Steal a Heart by Jen Turano is the first book in her Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency series. Gabriella Goodhue grew up as a street thief. Now a friend is accused of a theft and Gabriella must use all her old talents to clear her name. Running into Nicholas Quinn, an old friend, was not part of her plan. This was a great beginning to a new series. I can’t wait for the next book. All the ladies at the boardinghouse were so unique. I laughed out loud so many times at the witty conversations and the antics of all the different characters. I was afraid the whole book was going to be about one case that the agency had to solve, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wrapped up rather quickly and moved onto others. Ms. Turano did a great job with balancing the romance and mystery in this book. It would make a fabulous movie! I think this is her best book yet!! I received this book from the author for my honest review.

The Refrain Within

The Refrain Within by Liz Tolsma is the third book in her Music of Hope series. Hungarian clarinetist Eva Bognar is engaged to conductor and composer Patrik Kedves. With the wedding fast approaching Eva isn’t paying much attention to the plight of others around her. Until the Nazi’s threaten her family. In a very trying time in the world’s history Eva’s bravery in the story was just a sample of how so many ordinary people became heroes. She might have lost her faith in humanity for a while, and her faith in God was sorely tested but she never gave up. The plight of the Hungarian Jews is something you don’t hear much about, especially in stories. Ms. Tolsma kept the history alive without being overbearing. I really enjoyed following along with Eva and Patrik as they discovered who they really were in a difficult time. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

Night Fall by Susan Sleeman is the first book in her Nighthawk Security series. Olympic downhill skier champion Harper Young is used to danger. But when a stalker’s threats escalate her mother calls in the Nighthawk Security firm to guard her daughter. Aiden Byrd and his brothers are all ex-law enforcement officers turned private security. They need this first assignment to go well so that their business will grow. But Aiden didn’t count on falling for Harper. This a great beginning to a new series. As usual Ms. Sleeman brings all the cutting-edge technology of today into her well-written, edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting suspense stories. This one was no exception. You’re hooked from page one! This is a stand-alone series but it features characters met in the Truth Seekers and Cold Harbor series. It was fun re-connecting with old friends. Aiden had to overcome a lot of issues in this story and his courage and faith was an inspiration. Harper was no prima-donna. She was able to take care of herself. This is a story of hope and forgiveness. Can you tell I’m a huge Susan Sleeman fan? I received this e-book from the author for my honest review.

The Escape by Lisa Harris is the first book in her US Marshals series. On a routine prisoner transport across the country from Seattle to Colorado the plane crashes in the Salmon-Challis National Forest leaving both pilots and one prisoner dead. Now US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn must track the surviving prison through the backcountry before he escapes for good. This story had so many twists and turns you never knew what was coming next. I love stories with a strong female character, and Madison was definitely a strong woman. With all she was dealing with in her personal life she was still able to focus and get the job done. I can’t wait for the series to continue! An Ivy Hill Christmas A Tales from Ivy Hill Novella

An Ivy Hill Christmas by Julie Klassen is a Tales from Ivy Hill novella. Richard Brockwell is being coerced into to returning to Ivy Hill for Christmas. If he doesn’t show up his mother will cut off his money. He plans to only stay until the holidays are over. Arabella Awdry has heard all the stories about Richard’s escapades; so, she doesn’t trust him. Can he convince her that he has changed? This is a return to the charming English village of Ivy Hill. I liked being able to re-connect with all the characters from the other books. I loved the cover! It sure has a classic Christmas feel to it. The Ivy Hill series puts you in mind of a Jane Austen script. I feel that Ms. Austen and Ms. Klassen would have been best friends! It was so refreshing to be able to experience an English Christmas with all the old-world traditions. This was a very heart-warming story with the undertone that anyone who wants to can change. The Love Note

The Love Note by Joanna Davidson Politano is a stand-alone novel set in England in 1865. Willa Duvall finds an unopened love letter in a crack of her writing desk. Determined to find out who had written it, she takes a nursing position at Crestwicke Manor. Willa misplaces the letter and it travels from person to person at the Manor with varying responses. Some find it brings hope and to others it is discouraging. I loved how the letter made the rounds and the different responses to it. It was just what everyone needed when they needed it most. The different mysteries in the story kept it entertaining. The characters were a great combination. The story flowed well and kept you guessing who the actual author of the letter was. I felt the ending was a little rushed, but I guess the story had to end sometime! I received this book from the Publisher for my honest review.

Point of Danger

Point of Danger by Irene Hannon is the first book in her Triple Threat series. Eve Reilly is the host of a radio talk show. She is very vocal about her beliefs. Now someone wants her silenced – permanently! Police Detective Brent Lange is in charge of Eve’s case. He finds that none of the threats seem to be linked but his gut instinct says they are. Now, Brent is in a race against time to figure out who wants Eve dead before they actually succeed. There were a lot of characters to try to keep up with in this story and at times I had to thumb back through the story to figure out who was who. But that didn’t stop the suspense from building. You weren’t sure who to trust. The ending was a total shock! I never saw that coming! I enjoyed the comradery of the three sisters. I can’t wait for the next book! The Conqueror by Bryan Litfin is the first book in his Constantine’s Empire series. First off let me say that I didn’t finish this book. The story started off great but then became too graphic for a Christian fiction book; in my opinion. If the author had stayed away from going into the pagan/debauchery side of the story of early Rome, I might have been able to finish the book. There was too much inappropriate behavior and language included. Not just the characters’ language but the authors descriptive language. The flaunting of the marital vows by Christians, was the final straw. I won’t be getting the second book. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

A Rebel Heart by Beth White is the first book in The Daughtry House series. Five years after the Civil War, Selah Daughtry is struggling to provide for her two younger sisters and a spinster cousin. With their Mississippi plantation falling down around them, the offer to help turn her home into a hotel by the hotel management agent for the railroad seems like a good idea. Levi Riggins says it’s the only way to save her family home. But, can she trust a Yankee? This story addressed a very sensitive time in our nation’s history. I liked how the Daughtry girls came up with a way to help the less fortunate. Selah was a very brave, and forgiving lady who didn’t let society over-rule her personal convictions.

A Portrait of Loyalty by Roseanna M. White is the third book in her Codebreakers series. Lillian Blackwell uses her camera and her knowledge to help the Admiralty during WW1. Zivon Marin, one of Russia’s top cryptographers, flees Russia with information he hopes the British will use to help end the war. Meeting Lily was not part of his plan. When her life and his loyalties are threatened, will they be able to overcome or will they be the next casualties of the war? The suspense was very intense in this book, but the romance helped balance it out very well. I loved Lily’s spirited nature and her willingness to help others. The echo that Zivon kept hearing, “Be Still, and know that I am God,” is something we all should listen to. I think this was a great ending to the series! Minutes to Die by Susan Sleeman is the second book in her Homeland Heroes series. Terrorists have been smuggled into the U.S. FBI Agent Kiley Dawson and ICE Agent Evan Bowers must find them before they set off an attack worse than 9/11. This was a great suspense story. It grabs you from the first sentence and doesn’t let go until the final sentence. With Susan’s ability to write such great stories she should be on an FBI consultation team! She keeps you up to date on all the new technology and methods without bogging the story down. The chemistry between Kiley and Evan was very intense. The ending was a nail biter! Racing the clock is never a good idea; but, throw in bombs with minutes to detonation and terrorists and it gets a lot more explosive. I enjoyed being a part of the team. The Gentleman Spy by Erica Vetsch is the second book in her Serendipity and Secrets series. A continuation of book one. You can read this as a stand-alone but some parts may not make much sense to you. Marcus Haverly unexpectedly becomes the new Duke of Haverly when his father and older brother are killed in a carriage accident. To keep the London society from looking to closely at his life and discovering his secret identity, he proposes to and marries the spinster, Lady Charlotte. Thinking that his problem is solved he continues his secret work for the Crown. Lady Charlotte now has the means to carry out her passion for helping the down-trodden women of the city. As with any story you have the characters that you love and the ones you hate. This book was no exception. I really enjoyed Marcus’ and Charlotte’s characters. The mothers not so much! The mystery was a carry-over from the previous book. Charlotte’s care of the unfortunate women was very touching. If only everybody could see each other as a child of God and lend a hand instead of judgement, criticism and condemnation. I received this book from Read with Audra for my honest review.

A Dazzle of Diamonds by Liz Johnson is the third book in her Georgia Coast Romance series. Best friends Penelope and Tucker must clear his families name before the up-coming election. What happens next takes everybody by surprise. They’ve been best friends since childhood, can their friendship develop into something more? This story was mostly a romance with a little bit of a mystery thrown in. There was quite a bit of kissing. But, on the whole I enjoyed the story very much. Honesty is still the best policy and I think the author got the point across very well. I grew up in the South, so it was very refreshing to see all the southern charm that was woven into this book. The Crushing Depths by Dani Pettrey is the second book in her Coastal Guardians series. This was a great book. I enjoyed all the character interactions. The southern charm came thru loud and clear! The Heart of a Hero by Susan May Warren is the second book in her Global Search and Rescue series. Ex-Navy SEAL, Jake Silver, acts instinctively and sorts out the consequences later. Working for Jones Inc. Jake helped rescue Dr. Aria Sinclair on Denali. Now he he’s in Florida rescuing her from a Category 4 hurricane. There are some things you have no clue what they are talking about if you haven’t read the preceding book. But if you can overlook that then you’ll enjoy this story. Jake and Aria’s self-doubts seemed to rule theirs until they finally figured out that God is in control! The adventure was non-stop. Jake truly was a hero. I thought the side story should have been developed more. Hopefully it will continue in the next book! It was a great read. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

The Bridge to Belle Island by Julie Klassen is a stand-alone historical novel. Fooled and humiliated by his beautiful client, lawyer Benjamin Booker vows never to trust a beautiful woman again. When the senior law partner asks him to travel to Belle Island to investigate the death of a friend, Ben agrees. The main suspect is beautiful Isabelle Wilder, who hasn’t left the island in ten years. I thought the story started a little slowly. The two lawyers seemed to just wander around to me. About five chapters in the story picked up and I could hardly put the book down. The way that Isabelle protected Rose was so sweet. The love between them was almost a mother/daughter feeling instead of an aunt/niece. The danger level was there in the story but it was subtle, not overbearing. I really enjoyed this book. The island sounds like a beautiful place to take a vacation. I received this book from the author for my honest review.

The racial tension is very high in this book, along with rioting and even murder. The Saturday night prayer group is growing. Kelsey and her friends are seeing more heavenly intervention as the town’s tension grows. The author leads us on a journey of faith. Showing that prayer is a great tool against the enemy. The Socialite by J’Nell Ciesielski is a stand-alone World War 2 era novel. Sent to occupied Paris by her father, Sir Alfred Whitford, to bring home her wayward younger sister, Kat never dreamed what awaited her there. Ellie has disgraced the family name and taken up with a Nazi officer. Now Kat must figure out a way to get her sister safely back to England. Barrett Anderson is working for British Intelligence, training resistance fighters in the basement of his pub in Paris. Sir Alfred hires him to bring his girls home safely. Will Kat and Barrett be able to rescue Ellie from the clutches of her Nazi suitor or will they be killed in the power struggle? The story line had great potential. The characters were very likable and meshed well. You had the good guys and the bad guys that made for that good vs. evil content. I liked Kat’s character. She was able to work thru her hurt and pain and find forgiveness. There was just a lot of things in the story that could have been left out. The target on Piper’s back is growing daily. Will Nick be able to protect her from the deadly assassin who wants her dead? Wow, what a ride! Ms. Sleeman has a way of drawing you into the story on the first page and not letting you go until you turn that last page. The suspense was very real and intense in this story. The romance was very fast-paced but believable. All the characters blended well with each other. I’m not a very technical person. So, I learn something every time I read one of Susan’s books. She takes all the technical terms, gadgets and gizmos used by law enforcement and weaves them into the story without making it sound like a user’s manual. Star of Persia by Jill Eileen Smith is a stand-alone Biblical story. Ms. Smith tells the Biblical story of Esther from the scriptural view with bits of history thrown in. The story had plenty of palace intrigue and followed pretty closely to the Biblical account. I’m not sure I agree with the way Xerxes was portrayed, but it made for a very interesting read. I really enjoyed reading this version of the story. The love between Esther and Xerxes is something that a lot of authors leave out of the story of Esther because they are writing from the Biblical account. So to have that woven into this story was a very nice touch. I received this book LibraryThing for my honest review.

Daud is again enlisted to help the CIA extract a doctor from Egypt all kinds of things explode. Putting thousands of peoples lives at risk, including Hana’s and their unborn child. This story started out a little slow for me. And with the way things have always been between Israel and her neighbors you kind of had an idea what was going to happen. That being said, I think Whitlow did a great job with the story. The interaction was believable, the characters weren’t superheroes and the historical information wasn’t overwhelming. I really enjoyed it. If there is to be another book in the series I would definitely read it. I received this book Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

Seconds to Live by Susan Sleeman is book one in her Homeland Heroes series. When criminals hack into the Witness Protection database, U.S. Marshal Taylor Mills and FBI Agent Sean Nichols are thrust together to solve the case. The problem is, Taylor knows all of Sean’s deep, dark secrets and he’s reluctant to work with her. As usual Susan hooks you with her first sentence and keeps you on the line all the way to the end! I loved the interaction between all the members of the Red group. The author does a great job explaining how different branches of law enforcement works without getting too technical. Because of past experiences both Taylor and Sean had a lot of issues to work through; Trust being the main one. Once they realized that God had always been there for them it was easier to trust each other. The action was pretty intense at times and you never knew what was going to happen next! I received this book from the author for my honest review.

Hidden Rebel

Hidden Rebel by Michelle Janene is the third book in her Changed Hearts series. Lady Aria, disguised as a knight, travels to the kingdom of Veronia in search of a secret weapon to help free her people from the Black Horde. There she saves the life of the young prince. King Edmund agrees to help her find the secret weapon and pledges to fight alongside her when the time comes. There were a couple of scenes that could have been left out. Nothing explicit was mentioned; just some ripping of clothes and preparing to attack Lady Aria by some of the knights. Other than that, it was a great story. It put me in mind of reading about Joan of Arc. I loved the way Aria was able to talk to the Lord so passionately, and she actually waited for an answer. That’s something we could all learn how to do. We always want the answer right now! The sword fights were awesome; I could actually picture myself standing on the sidelines cheering them on. You could feel the love growing between all the characters. I received this book from Celebrate Lit in exchange for my honest review.

Lake Season by Denise Hunter is the first book in her A Bluebell Inn Romance series. When Molly Bennett’s parents are killed in an accident the three kids put their lives on hold, to fulfill their parents’ dream of opening an inn in Bluebell, North Carolina. Adam Bradford is their first guest. He and Molly strike up a friendship, and together they embark on a summer filled with love, heart-ache, old and new secrets and a journey to finding lasting peace, contentment, joy and love. Molly was such a delightful character. Nothing kept her down for long except her fear of losing those close to her. Adam’s ability to overcome his father’s rejection showed an inner strength and courage not many people find. I loved the plot twist at the end! Didn’t quite see that one coming. I can’t wait for the next installment. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

Deadly Christmas Pretense by Dana Mentink is the second book in her Roughwater Ranch Cowboys series. How far would you be willing to go to protect a family member? That’s what Maggie Lofton must decide when she finds out her twin’s life is in danger. Working with her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Liam Pike, Maggie will put her life on the line to save Tammy and solve the mystery of the missing jewelry. Returning to Roughwater Ranch was like returning home. Although the storyline centered around Maggie and Liam we got to see some old friends from the previous book. I love Aunt Ginny and Uncle Gus. Their love for each other is so sweet. Although Liam has a few problems he finally learns to move past them and find true love and freedom. This was a great story, full of romance, danger, mystery, and cowboys! I received this book from the author for my honest review.

Deadly Deceit by Natalie Walters is the second book in her Harbored Secrets series. Welcome back to the little southern town of Walton, Georgia, where secrets seldom remain hidden! Journalist Vivian DeMarco teams up with Deputy Ryan Frost to find out who murdered her boss. The characters were very believable. Ryan and Vivian have issues with their fathers. Together they encourage each other to overcome their pasts and embrace the future. The suspense in this book started on page one and never stopped. The twists and turns kept you riveted and just when you thought you couldn’t take any more the author threw in a little romance to get you ready for the next adventure! I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one. Natalie Walters is one of my new favorite authors. I received this book from LibraryThing for my honest review.

Practically Married by Karin Beery is a stand-alone novel about finding your rightful place in life. Deciding to give up the dating scene Ashley moves to northern Michigan to marry Tom, whom she met online. They are both settling for companionship instead of romance and love. When she arrives, she finds out that Tom has died in a tragic accident and didn’t tell anybody about her. Meeting Tom’s family fills that empty place in Ashley’s heart. Russ, Tom’s cousin and business partner, finds Ashley to be everything that he’s ever wanted in a wife. Can they overcome all the obstacles and realize that they were meant for each other? I loved the big meddling family. All the love and worry and comradery made the story come alive. The care that Russ showed Ashley was so refreshing considering today’s standards. A very sweet romance. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

The Painted Castle by Kristy Cambron is the third book in her A Lost Castle series. Art historian Keira Foley is hired to authenticate a painting of Queen Victoria. What she finds is more questions than answers. Emory Scott, rumored art thief, is there to help her unravel the mystery’s behind the painting and Parham Hill Manor. They find a rich and warm history. This book follows the stories of three women, woven together by time. The author takes you on a journey from Victorian England to the ending of World War two and then to present day England. Weaving the three different stories together so beautifully that you don’t mind rotating from one story to the next. Immersed in the English countryside, with romance, castles, and history was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.

Unscripted by David Bunn is a stand-alone novel. Danny Byrd’s career has been ruined by his best friend. Can LA lawyer, Megan Pierce, help Danny find redemption? When the opportunity arises to make a difference, together they’ll take the chance. This is a story of pain and healing, love and romance, hope and renewal. When I first started reading, I was afraid it was going to read as a manual on how to film a movie with a lot of technical jargon. I was greatly surprised! We were given a behind the scenes look at movie making but the story was so much more. There was a touch of intrigue, the romance was understated but the message of forgiveness and hope shouted out loud from the beginning to the ending. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I loved it! The Gryphon Heist

The Gryphon Heist by James R. Hannibal is the first book in his Talia Inger series. A rookie CIA agent, an elite team of thieves, and top-secret defense technology, spell instant suspense! Talia Inger is assigned to the forgotten department of Eastern Europe known as “Other”. With her team of thieves and her civilian partner she must access the Gryphon, a high-altitude data storage; before a known terrorist gets to them. Once I started this book, I had a hard time putting it down. It read like a fast-paced spy movie! The twists and turns kept me turning pages. The way Tyler leads Talia back to God and helps her forgive was woven in so well that it never took away from the “action feel” of the story. If you can’t stand nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat suspense then this story isn’t for you. I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

One Final Breath by Lynn H. Blackburn is the third book in her Dive Team Investigations series. Dive Team Captain Anissa Bell and Investigator Gabe Chavez are working together to solve a murder when Anissa’s past catches up with them. As Anissa And Gabe’s feelings for each other deepen, Anissa works to make amends for her past. This is a story of learning to forgive. Not just others but yourself as well. Our past helps shape who we are but we must learn to not let it rule us. This was an explosive story. I was hooked from page one all the way to the end. The characters were warm and supportive but most of all they were “real” people with flaws just as all of us are. We all must learn that God can use us anywhere we are placed. A great suspense story! Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano is the second book in her American Heiresses series. Poppy Garrison accepts financial help from her grandmother for her family. In exchange Poppy must join her for the New York social Season. Trying to make Poppy into the crème of society is a challenge. There is trouble everywhere that she goes. Reginald Blackburn, second son of the Duke of Sutherland came to New York to help his cousin find an American heiress to marry. Because of his very British manners, Poppy’s grandmother hires him to teach Poppy etiquette. Will Reginald be able to turn Poppy into a Diamond of the First Water or is she too much of a Diamond in the Rough? This book is hilarious! I caught myself laughing out loud several times. Earning some strange looks from my husband! I loved the way Poppy never backed down from a fight but stood for what she thought was right. She wasn’t afraid of what people said about her. She stayed true to herself. Some of the situations that she found herself in were hilarious but she made the best of the situation and kept on going. We could learn a lesson from her. Don’t let the situation overcome you; overcome the situation! I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Love & Other Mistakes
by
Jessica Kate
Kim Potter
, August 09, 2019
Love and Other Mistakes by Jessica Kate is an okay story. It is fast-paced with lots of family “issues” going on. Seven years ago, Jeremy ran out on Natalie, breaking her heart. Now, he’s back with an infant son and needing a nanny. Natalie has spent all her savings helping her parents and she just lost her job. Working for Jeremy is her only option. Will old feelings re-surface or is Natalie’s hate of Jeremy too strong? This story started out with such promise but it didn’t end so well. The characters just didn’t seem to fit. There were several references Natalie’s underwear that I thought were in poor taste; it didn’t add anything to the story. The family “issues” seemed to drag the story without getting resolved. For a Christian fiction story there was not very much repentance for wrong-doing. It was just assumed that forgiveness was a given without really being sorry for the wrongs committed. More of sorry that they were found out. I wouldn’t recommend this book. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit in exchange for my honest review.

What he didn’t expect to find was his partner alive! Now, he must deal with the hurt, anger and relief as he and Allison work together to bring about justice instead of revenge. Wow! Where do you start with a story like this one? I loved the characters. They were so down to earth and believable. They struggled with trusting God yet they kept on believing. One of the plot twists at the end was a great surprise. Didn’t see that one coming! It was a very fast-paced story with plenty of human interests throughout. Midnight on the River Grey by Abigail Wilson is a regency novel set in an early English countryside estate. Rebecca Hunter wants to find out how her brother was murdered but the only problem is, her new guardian is the suspect. I loved the adventurous nature of Rebecca. It kept my interest all the way to the surprising end. I love plot twists! I received this book from Celebrate-Lit in exchange for my honest review.

Hadassah, Queen Esther of Persia
by

Hadassah Queen Esther of Persia by Diana Wallis Taylor is the retelling of the Biblical story of Esther. Everyone knows the story of how the young Jewish girl became queen of Persia. I’ve loved this Bible story ever since I was a kid. Who wouldn’t love to be a queen? I never really thought about how Hadassah must have felt about leaving her family, her people, even maybe a boyfriend. Ms. Taylor told the story with a more personal look at Hadassah’s life. To go from a strict religious household to living in a pagan king’s palace must have been a very traumatic time for her. Yet she never lost her faith in the One true God; and He was faithful to her. This was a lovely read. I would highly recommend it if you like Biblical stories. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit in exchange for my honest review.

A Reluctant Belle by Beth White is the second book in her Daughtry House series. Joelle Daughtry is one southern belle you don’t want to tangle with. Helping her sisters turn their run-down plantation into a hotel resort is no job for the weak. Schuyler Beaumont, childhood enemy, becomes an investor in the hotel when the girls become in need of additional funds. As the Ku Klux Klan starts gaining power Joelle and Schuyler must work together to protect friends and loved ones. Can they extinguish the sparks that continue to fly between them before they both get burned? I always enjoy a story where the heroine is not a push-over and can handle things on their own. Joelle had an inner strength that saw her through a tough time in our history. I loved the interaction between Joelle and Schuyler. Ms. White did a very good job with a very touchy subject matter. The history didn’t overwhelm the storyline; it just enhanced it. If you like Civil War era romance then this is a book you would really enjoy! The Sky Above Us by Sarah Sundin is the second book in her Sunrise at Normandy series. Adler Paxton fled from his home in Texas three years ago. Running from his mistakes and the guilt, he joins the Army as an airplane pilot. Stationed in England in the days leading up to the invasion of France at Normandy he meets Red Cross volunteer, Violet Lindstrom. Adler and Violet not only must learn to trust in each other but in a loving and forgiving God. I love World War 2 stories but this one went above and beyond. The history was well woven in, the action was believable and the romance was sweet. What else could you want? The underlying theme of repentance and forgiveness was a great reminder that all we have to do is truly be sorry and ask for forgiveness. The healing that comes afterward is so sweet and refreshing. I can’t wait for the next book! I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

The Sea Before Us by Sarah Sundin is the first book in her Sunrise at Normandy series. Wyatt Paxton is stationed in England awaiting D-Day. He meets Dorothy Fairfax, who is a “Wren” in the Women’s Royal Naval Service. She studies snapshots of the coast of Normandy in order to create accurate maps for the allied landings. Wyatt transforms those maps into naval bombardment plans for D-Day. As they spend more time together will they learn to forgive or will they let their past rule their future? I loved the way that Wyatt clung to God during his trials instead of pushing Him away. It’s a lesson we all should learn. At times Dorothy was a little too thick-headed for my liking, but overall, she was a great heroine. Stories of World War two have always held a special interest for me. I have actually stood Omaha Beach and it was a very moving experience. So, it was easy to picture all the scenes as they unfolded. Dorothy’s love and devotion to her father was very touching. The humor that was woven through-out the story came at just the right times. Ms. Sundin is a very talented author. Her research was woven into a very moving story.

Emily Chastain has no idea why someone is trying to kill her all she knows is that she must escape. Then Brady comes to her aid and she finally has someone she can trust. I liked how Emily was able to change her view of herself with help from her friends. It shows how surrounding yourself with the positive can affect our attitude. Castle on the Rise

Castle on the Rise by Kristy Cambron is the second book in her Lost Castle series. This is the story of Ireland’s fight for freedom. Spanning more than two centuries; it unites the tales of three women, woven around the Castle Chryn. The author brings to life the beautiful, breath-taking scenery that is the Emerald Isle. As you read you have no trouble imagining that you are there. What was hard was keeping up with three different stories. Each chapter alternated between the three characters and their respective time frames. It was hard to keep up at times and adjust from present day to the 1700’s. I thought that the stories would have made an excellent novella; telling each story on its own. The stories were well written and the history very informative without being boring. I did enjoy getting to know the characters and would enjoy reading another story by this author now that I am familiar with her writing style. Arriving in rural Pennsylvania in answer to an advertisement for a housekeeper, Izzie is not prepared for such a demanding job. As an heiress she’s never had to work, and now she’s responsible for a household of six! This makes for some very humorous situations. I loved the determination and humor that Izzie displayed when each new trial came along. Finding out your purpose in life is hard sometimes, but Izzie came through with flying colors. Of Fire and Lions by Mesu Andrews is a re-telling of the Biblical story of Daniel. From the capture of Jewish prisoners sent to Babylon to the return of the remnant to Jerusalem this story takes you on a ride you will never forget. Daniel and his young friends are sent to Babylon where they are trained to serve in the king’s court. I’m not one who usually reads Biblical fiction, but I thought I’d try this one. Ms. Andrews did not disappoint! I loved the way she brought the story to life. Giving Daniel and the Hebrew Children a family life seemed to make them more human and not just stories that you’ve heard from childhood. Her view of the story had me thinking about things I’d never even stopped to consider. Abigail’s struggles throughout the story were a reminder that God is always near waiting for us to be still and listen and He’ll always take care of us. I will definitely be looking for more books by this very talented author. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Catching Christmas

Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock is a Christmas short story. Sydney Batson is a first-year law associate with a pressing court case. So, when her grandmother needs to go to the doctor, she arranges for a cab to take her, since she can’t leave court. Flynn Parrish responds to a call never expecting to pick up a sick, little old lady with dementia. As Flynn drives Carrie around on her errands he begins to care about her. Carrie’s greatest Christmas wish is for her granddaughter to be happy. This was such a sweet story. The only draw back was that it was written in first person; and skipped back and forth between Sydney and Flynn too often. The story-line caught your attention and held it throughout. Never forget the people in your life. Take care of them, spend time with them. Just be there for them. One day you may find that they are no longer here on earth and you don’t want to have any regrets. Make each day count. I received this book from Celebrate Lit in exchange for my honest review.

Mind Games by Nancy Mehl is the first book in her Kaely Quinn Profiler series. Wow, I don’t even know where to start. I stayed up way too late so I could finish it! When the newspaper reporter that ruined Kaely’s career receives a letter predicting several murders with Kaely’s being the last one, the FBI aren’t sure that it’s a real threat until a body turns up. Now, with a serial killer threatening one of their own the Bureau must anticipate his next move or there’ll be more innocent lives lost. Special Agent Noah Turner is assigned to lead the investigation and watch Kaely’s back. This was a thrilling page-turner. I kept saying I was only going to read one more chapter before bed but I couldn’t put the book down. I loved how positive Kaely was even when things didn’t go her way. The positive spin she put on the situations that were meant to bring her down were an encouragement. Even tho’ she was in a life or death situation she didn’t forget to ask God for guidance. We could all learn a lesson from her positive attitude in the face of unspeakable horror. I received this book from Celebrate-Lit in exchange for my honest review.

Chosen People by Robert Whitlow is a stand-alone legal novel. Gloria Neumann is killed during a terrorist attack near the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Now, Jacob Brodsky, a Jewish lawyer, is pursuing a lawsuit on behalf of the family and needs help from Hanna Abboud, a Christian Arab Israeli lawyer based in Atlanta. The case quickly takes them from Georgia to the streets of Jerusalem where the risk of death is everywhere. I loved being able to travel along to Israel, a country I’ve not had a chance to visit. The encounters with all the secret organizations in Israel kept me interested to see what happened next. The spiritual content was expertly woven in with the story. The legal aspect of the lawsuit/storyline was handled very well. I was afraid that with this being a legal thriller that there would be a lot of legal talk, but there wasn’t. I wasn’t bored at all. It is a very well-written story. I received this book from the Celebrate-Lit in exchange for my honest review.

In Too Deep by Lynn H. Blackburn is the second book in her Dive Team Investigations series. The team is called in to investigate a submerged car. In the car was an encrypted laptop. They bring in Dr. Sabrina Fleming, a professor at the local university who has extraordinary computer forensics skills, to help recover the files on the laptop. What they find is a whole lot of trouble! The evidence will convict a whole lot of powerful people who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets hidden. This was a very fast-paced story with lots of suspense, comradery, romance and danger. I enjoyed how the whole team worked and played together as a unit. Ms. Blackburn wasn’t afraid to tackle a very tough subject, and she did it quite well. The story-line and the characters worked great together. I can’t wait for the next installment. I received this book from LibraryThing in exchange for my honest review.

Christmas Hideout by Susan Sleeman is the third book in her Love Inspired Suspense McKade Law series. Nicole Dyer is being stalked by her ex-boyfriend. She flees with her three-year-old daughter, Emelie. They find shelter in an empty cabin in the small town of Lost Creek. Deputy Matt McKade vows to make sure that nothing happens to the two of them. The first sentence had me on the edge of my seat and it continued for the whole story. Matt and Nicole both struggled with letting God control their future. When they finally realized that He always knew what was best for them they were able to rest in that knowledge. Sometimes we forget that He’s God and loves us unconditionally. It’s a lesson that sometimes must be learned over and over. If we can give our lives to God then there’s no worries about tomorrow. Lost Christmas Memories by Dana Mentink is the fourth book in her Love Inspired Suspense Gold Country Cowboys series. Tracy Wilson witnesses a murder. After sustaining a head injury, she can’t remember who she saw; and he wants to keep it that way. This story grabbed your interest from the opening sentence and never let up ‘til the very end. The suspense of waiting for Tracy to fully remember what happened kept me on the edge of my seat. And the bond that grew between her and Keegan was so enduring. I loved the way he tried to keep her protected even when he had issues of his own. All in all it was a great story. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Delayed Justice by Cara Putman is the third book in her Hidden Justice series. Jaime Nichols is a criminal defense attorney in the public defender’s office. She tries to be the voice for those who do not have one. Chandler Bolton is an American veteran who works with the vets as they readjust to civilian life. He has trained his dog to be a therapy dog. His first assignment is to help an eight-year-old girl as she testifies in court. This story had suspense mixed with romance. I loved how sensitive Chandler was with Jaime. He was a true gentleman. It was a reminder that God is always there in every situation whether we can see him or not. He’ll be our comfort and shield if we’ll only allow Him in. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Indivisible: A Novelization
by
Travis Thrasher

Indivisible by Travis Thrasher is a poignant novel, inspired by true events, about one family’s battle to follow God’s leading. After much prayer and soul searching, Darren and Heather Turner feel that Darren’s joining the Army as a chaplain is what God is calling them to do next with their lives. As Darren serves in Iraq, Heather tends the home fires and helps other Army wives adjust to the military way of life. Darren takes his commitment to “his” soldiers very seriously. But dealing with death and destruction every day takes a toll even on a man with Darren’s faith. He knows God doesn’t aske us to understand Him, just to follow Him. When his deployment is over the new challenge is to readjust to civilian life. He must deal with what he saw in Iraq and what he left there. Plus protect his family from ever having to know of the evil in our world. This story deals with the frustrations of trying to fit back in, the feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety, anger and most of all the guilt. Guilt for making it home when so many others didn’t and for not being there for all the family mile-stones. We hear about the challenges that face our country’s heroes when they come home after a deployment but this story gives plunges you right into the middle of it all. After reading this I have a better understanding and sympathy for what they all go thru. My conclusion is that we need to pray for our heroes, the defenders of our freedom. It’s the least we can do for them as they put their lives on the line for us. I received this book from Celebrate Lit in exchange for my honest review.

Shelter of the Most High

Shelter of the Most High by Connilyn Cossette is the second book in her Cities of Refuge series. Written from Sofea and Eitan’s points of view the story takes place in Kedesh, a city of refuge. Sofea, daughter of a pagan high priest, is from the island of Sicily. After she is kidnapped, she ends up in Canaan. Eitan, after suffering a childhood tragedy, has grown up in the city of Kedesh. When they meet will they be able to put the past behind them and move into a future blessed by Yahweh? I really enjoyed this book. It had everything you could want in a story; pirates, murder plots, romance, forgiveness and mercy. The way Darek loved Moriyah was very touching and sweet. The words of Eleazar, the High Priest, to Sofea were very powerful. It got me to thinking about how everything is ordained of God and nothing happens without His knowledge. We can rest in the Shelter of the Most High. I can’t wait for the next installment. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Lady of a Thousand Treasures
by
Sandra Byrd

Lady of a Thousand Treasures by Sandra Byrd is the first book in her Victorian Ladies series. Written in the first-person, Ms. Byrd immerses you into the middle of 1866 England. Where collecting antiques is a very common hobby of the wealthy. If you’re going to spend a lot of money on an antique you have to know if it’s authentic. That’s where Eleanor Sheffield and Sheffield Brothers come in. They evaluate your treasures. Eleanor learned the business from her father before his passing and now she works with her ailing uncle. The story started off a little slow for me but it didn’t take it long to draw me in. I enjoyed learning more about different collectables without being over whelmed by technical talk. It was a great story and had it all; lost love, suspense, betrayal, and then redemption and a stronger love. This is a well-written story that deserves multiple reads. I can’t wait for the next installment. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Christmas Heirloom
by
Kim Potter
, October 02, 2018
The Christmas Heirloom is a Christmas novella by four out-standing Christian authors. The stories center around an heirloom brooch handed down through the generations and rumored to bring true love to its owner. Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter starts the story off. We find Sarah Gooding as the companion of Lady Densbury in Lancashire, England in 1827. Sarah was hired after she recovered the brooch from a snow bank. Lady Densbury introduces Sarah to her grandson, Randall. Because Sarah is hired help, Randall’s mother disapproves of her. Will the love blossoming wilt under the pressure or will it bloom? The story was a delight to read. I loved the laughter and the easy camaraderie. Gift of the Heart by Karen Witemeyer takes place in Hope Springs, Texas in 1890. The brooch is now in the hands of Lady Densbury’s fourth great granddaughter. Widow Ruth Fulbright moves to Hope Springs with her daughter Naomi hoping for a new start. She uses the brooch as collateral for a bank loan and gains so much more than she bargained for. This story was so well crafted. I laughed out-loud at the antics of seven-year-old Naomi. I became anxious about where Ruth would get the needed supplies for winter; and I actually cried when she fell in love. This was such a sweet story. A Shot at Love by Sarah Loudin Thomas is a Sound of Rain novella. Fleeta Brady lives in Bethel, West Virginia in 1958. She has lived with her aunt and uncle since the death of her parents when she was very small. Her aunt has been holding onto the brooch for Fleeta until she is old enough to inherit it from her mother. She is now the seventh generation to own the Luckenbooth brooch. Fleeta’s dream is to open a gunsmithing shop but now that she has the brooch maybe love isn’t as girly as she had feared. Fleeta was a loveable tomboy. I really enjoyed her character. When Hank Chapin returns the lost brooch to Fleeta, you know sparks are gonna fly! Because of You by Becky Wade is a Bradford Sisters romance set in present day Merryweather, Washington. Maddie Winslow is the tenth-generation owner of the amethyst brooch. She has secretly been in love with Leo for years, but he married her best friend. When she finds the heirloom brooch hidden in a box, will it finally be her turn for true love? I loved the integrity of this story and the willingness to honor a friend’s memory. The Christmas mission project that Maddie helps with sounds like a great way to celebrate the birth of Jesus. A great little holiday read to get you into the Christmas spirit! A Secret to Die For by Lisa Harris is a stand-alone Christian suspense novel. When the patient of Psychologist Grace Callahan is found murdered she realizes he wasn’t paranoid after all. Now the bad guys think before he died that he left her with the information they need to finish their catastrophic plans and they’ll stop at nothing to get what they want. Again, Ms. Harris doesn’t disappoint readers with her edge- of-your-seat, heart-in-your-throat roller coaster ride of suspense. From the first sentence to the last you will hold your breath, waiting to see what happens next. A great story for anyone who loves suspense novels. Sparkle of Silver

Liz Johnson

A Sparkle of Silver by Liz Johnson is the first book in her Georgia Coast Romance series. In the 1920’s Millie’s great grandmother was a guest at the Chatateau owned by oil-tycoon Howard Dawkins and located on the shore of St. Simon Island, Georgia. Now, ninety years later Millie is part of a re-creation of that era for the historical society. When her grandmother mentions a hidden treasure and a missing journal, Millie begins her own search. I really enjoyed the journal entries that gave us a historical view of the hotel and a glimpse of Millie’s great grandmother, Ruth. It was like we had two different stories in one. I thought the story started a little slow but the ending more than made up for it. I stayed up way too late to finish this book. I kept turning the pages to find out what happened next. I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Legacy of Mercy

Lynn Austin

Legacy of Mercy by Lynn Austin is the second book in her Waves of Mercy series. Wow, I don’t even know where to start. This book was awesome! I usually don’t care for books written in the first person but I decided to give this one a chance. I’m really glad I did, it was amazing. Anna Nicholson returns to Chicago from Michigan. She is engaged to be married to a very wealthy young man. But she can’t seem to get excited about her socialite lifestyle. Anna hires the Pinkerton’s to try to find her birth father. What she learns may be the thing that brings about ruin for those she loves. The messages through-out the story are so powerful. Forgiveness, loving your enemies, helping those less fortunate, sharing your faith, all this is woven together so well with a sweet love story. Reading about Anna and her courage to share her faith with the society crowd was a very powerful check to me. I started examining my life. Do I have that kind of courage? Would I be able to stand up for My Lord in the face of ridicule and the possibility of losing friends? A great story without being “preachy”. I would highly recommend it! I received this e-book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

An Hour Unspent

Roseanna M. White

An Hour Unspent by Roseanna White is the third book in her Shadows Over England series. This is Barclay’s story. No longer a thief on the streets of London, he uses his expertise to help a nation at war. His job is to keep an eye on clockmaker, Cecil Manning, who may have stumbled on a revolutionary idea for the Admiralty. Rescuing his daughter from a mugging is a bonus he hadn’t counted on. I think this was my favorite in the series. I love how compassionate Barclay was and the way he took care of his family without being made to do it, it just came from his heart. “Family isn’t blood. It should be, but it isn’t, not always. Family is choice. Love.” The spiritual lessons woven through-out was an inspiration. The reference to God being the Master Clockmaker were inspired. The way Ms. White dropped in the little history tidbits really made it come alive without being a boring history lesson. I’m sad to see this series come to an end. I would highly recommend the whole series. I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Engraved on the Heart

Engraved on the Heart by Tara Johnson is a novel set during the Civil War. Living in Savannah, Georgia during this tumultuous time Keziah Montgomery is not your typical Southern belle. Her dedicated Confederate family cling to their southern roots and she is forced to trail along until a classmate comes back into her life challenging her to think of others. Her prayer becomes, “Lord I want to make a difference. Help me to make a difference.” And her life is changed forever! This story brought the struggles of the Confederate South to life. Would I have had the courage to stand up for what is right regardless of the price? Engraved on the Heart had it all – laughter, romance, tears and at times utter nail-biting suspense. This story is worth numerous reads over and over. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Johnson writes next. “Think about all the good that can come from one person igniting a spark in a single man. One person’s life can touch so many.”

Protected Secrets by Heather Woodhaven is a Love Inspired Suspense novel. U.S. Marshal Delaney Patton is the lead agent for the protection of Bruce Walker and his adopted daughter. Bruce witnessed the murder of a security guard and is now the target for the criminals. As Delaney gets to know the father and daughter she’s in danger of loosing her heart, but she has a secret. She suspects that Winnie is the child that she gave up for adoption when she was born. Before Delaney can prove her suspicions, she must make sure everyone stays alive so Bruce can testify in court. The story takes off with a fast pace from the very beginning and doesn’t let up until the very end with a couple of surprises along the way. Woven throughout the story is the message of forgiveness and redemption. I loved the way the characters related to each other. Delaney was a strong individual. She knew what to do in a crisis and took care of business without losing her femininity. If you’re looking for car chases, shoot-outs, and romance then this is definitely a book to add to your reading list. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
