Another excellent police procedural from Peter Robinson. Two mysteries merge into one big case for the team. I have read all his books and have never been disappointed. One of my top ten authors.

Night After Night
by
Phil Rickman

All descriptions on Powells here are incorrect for this book which I just finished reading. This is a stand-alone novel, not a John Dees or Merrily Watkins book. It's a ghost story as only Rickman can do, expertly weaving facts with a fictional narrative. A film company has brought together believers and sceptics for a Big Brother type experience in a house with a bad reputation. It does not end well for some but all that remain are forever changed.

This Thing of Darkness

Another great addition to this series! If you haven't read the other books, start at the beginning, you will not be disappointed. Fiona is a gem, interesting and complex. She keeps digging and digging deep, and her instincts are spot-on. Her inner dialogue is delightful and often lightens the moment. One hell of a detective and woman!

By the Book Writers on Literature & the Literary Life from the New York Times Book Review

If you want to know what books famous writers read, check out this book. The what/why/where of their reading. What are their very best reads and who do they feel is overrated and under-rated. What books they loved as children and what books most greatly influenced them to become writers. Do they reread and what. Fascinating stuff!

Strange Death of Fiona Griffiths
by
Harry Bingham
BJ Simon
, April 05, 2015
Excellent addition to this series! This is book three. Fiona Griffiths having survived a bout with Cotard's Syndrome, completed a philosophy degree at Cambridge then goes on to become a detective. She is a strange and compelling person who analyzes what 'normal' is so she can try to emulate it. This aspect does remind me of the Dexter books and TV series but she, of course, fights the 'bad guys'. She goes on a lengthy undercover assignment in this book that leads to problems with her own identity and puts her in danger. And while leading a second and then third life, she tries to maintain her boyfriend relationship and gather clues towards her backstory of being an abandoned infant. Great stuff. Bring on book four!!

A wonderful coming-of-age novel with tons of heart. There is a mystery which is solved but to me it was the people and their relationships that made this novel a great read.

A first in a new series from Chelsea Cain. A fast, fun read! Not that the subject matter is fun mind you but it was an enjoyable book that did not bog down along the way. All the relationships are intriguing so lots of material there for further exploration. I look forward to the next book.
