Color Of Water A Black Mans Tribute To His White Mother
by
James Mcbride
chocochic53
, May 03, 2009
The Color of Water is an fascinating memoir. As a Caucasian living in a predominately Caucasian town in the U.S. I have never experienced many issues with race. Seeing the struggle that James went through as a black man with a white mother trying to discover the importance of race and background was very interesting and gave me a view into a completely different way of life, even though it is still in the same country as me. I would recommend this book to people of any ethnicity, even if you don't like discussing or reading about race. This is not a normal story and it opened my eyes in incredible ways.

The Glass Castle: A Memoir
by
Jeannette Walls
chocochic53
, May 03, 2009
I don't usually enjoy reading nonfiction books, but The Glass Castle is so enthralling that it's hard to believe that it's actually a memoir. As a child Jeannette Walls went through extremely hard struggles living in poverty, having an alcoholic father, etc. but it is inspiring to see her overcome them all. She grew up to be a successful journalist and now a successful novelist. I hope that Walls will write more novels to continue the legacy that she began.

Rebecca

This is exactly the kind of book that I love. It is filled with suspense, romance, and beautiful language. The view of life that the reader gets to see from the perspective of the narrator is descriptive and unique from any other literary character that I've ever known. I recommend this story to readers who enjoy classics, those who want to start reading classics, and those who never thought that they could enjoy a classic. This is a book that any reader will not easily forget.

Th1rteen R3asons Why
by
Asher, Jay
chocochic53
, January 28, 2009
This book is very addicting and forces you to keep turning its pages. If that's all that you want to find in a book then this would suit you, however I read this book along with a group of friends and all of us agreed that this story leaves the reader with a feeling of depression after reading it. The story filled with suicide, harassment, and hopelessness does have humor and other things to break up the melancholy, but especially near the ending, the book gives the reader dangerous feelings. I admire the author for being able to express such feelings to the readers, but I personally did not want those feelings while reading this book.

Atonement
by
Ian McEwan
chocochic53
, January 28, 2009
This book is an intense story of love, lies, family, and war. The way that Ian McEwan writes gives beautiful descriptive scenes, while also keeping the story moving at a good pace. Also, the way that you get so deep into the heads of all of the various characters creates an amazing experience where the reader gets transformed into each character that they are reading about at that time. I would recommend this book to veracious and timid readers alike. This is definitely a book to read over and over again!

My Name Is Chloe: Chloe: Book 1
by
Melody Carlson
chocochic53
, February 22, 2008
This is a great, inspirational story for any teenage girl looking for more than just the shallow romance plots that so many books seem to have gotten recently. The book is a diary of a girl named Chloe who is going through many things at once including finding her faith, creating a band, and discovering what true friendship is. I recommend it to all teenage girls, "Christians" or not. This book has a lot of good for everyone to hear!

Gemma Doyle 03 Sweet Far Thing
by
Libba Bray
chocochic53
, January 12, 2008
I've been addicted to Libba Bray's first two novels and this one was even better by far! This was the perfect ending for an amazing trilogy, even if I did shed a few tears over it. In order to read this you must read the first 2 first. I was very glad that this book kept to my morals, which is harder to find these days. I recommend this book if you are a young adult (probably female) who loves a book of adventure, sensuality, and friendship.

Darcys Story From Pride & Prejudice
by
Janet Aylmer
chocochic53
, January 02, 2008
At the beginning I found this book to be quite straightforward and I was just reading things that I already knew from Pride and Prejudice, but as I kept reading I discovered a new Darcy from this author's point of view. I discovered true thoughts from him and understand him better now than ever before. After reading Pride and Prejudice Elizabeth was my favorite character, hands down. But now, Mr. Darcy is finding a special place in my heart too. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Pride and Prejudice.

Wuthering Heights
by
Emily Bronte
chocochic53
, January 02, 2008
This classic is a unique treasure. Bronte has written a story full of passion, love, and tragedy. I read this book as a high schooler and found myself absorbed by the characters in this plot. This is a book that you can truly think over and that does not tell you how you should feel about it. I also, will not tell you how you should feel about it, but I will tell you that throughout all of its twists and turns it really is worth your time.

Silent Spring
by
Carson, Rachel
chocochic53
, January 02, 2008
I read this book for a Biology class at my high school and enjoyed it. It was written in 1962 by a biologist about how chemicals including pesticides like DDT are endangering our environment. It has extremely fascinating stories about real life cases where we learned that chemicals and nature don't mix, but what's even more interesting is how even though these events happened, people still use pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals freely in our world today. I will warn you that I found this book to get pretty long at times, but if you are interested in learning about this topic this book will teach you a lot!

This fun book gives a really interesting view to the way our culture values beauty vs. brains. I would recommend this book to all girls looking to be more than just a barbie.

& Then There Were None
by
Agatha Christie
chocochic53
, December 09, 2007
This is the first book I have read by Agatha Christie and it was incredible! Now, although I haven't read another one of her books, I have watched many of the movies based off of her books and look forward to reading more of her books. At first this book starts with introducing you to a ton of characters all at once, and it's a little difficult keeping them straight, but once you do this book pulls you in and keeps you wondering all the way up until the last page.

Forever in Blue The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood
by
Ann Brashares
chocochic53
, December 09, 2007
Although personally I think that the third book in this series left off at a better stopping place than this one, it was still nice to read about these characters. I believe that Ann Brashares changed them a little bit more than was reasonable, but they are her characters and she would know them better than me, so overall a very good book.

Tree Grows in Brooklyn

Betty Smith

I picked up this book not knowing that it is a classic. Although at some points it could get a little slow, this book had great insight into a girl's life teaching me a few things about how life used to be. I would definitely recommend it!

My morals would not let me enjoy this book. The thing is a lot of trash from cover to cover. I understand that some people may enjoy reading this stuff considering that this kind of material is in movies and on TV all the time, but for me, get something with a real plot instead of this wannabe.

A Great & Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle #1)
by
Libba Bray
chocochic53
, December 09, 2007
At first I only picked up this book because of the beautiful cover, but after reading it for just a few minutes, I was hooked. The story starts out with a mysterious bang, and grips you, forcing you to read it until you're through. You'll have to read the sequel Rebel Angles and personally, I can't wait for the third book to come out!

Gemma Doyle 02 Rebel Angels
by
Libba Bray
chocochic53
, December 09, 2007
After reading A Great and Terrible Beauty, I was dying to see what happened to these awesome characters and I was not disappointed when Rebel Angels came out. At some points I get a little confused in the fantasy of the story, but everything works out in the end and I definitely recommend this book to any girl who love a page turning book with strong, adventurous, female characters.

Twilight: Twilight 1
by
Stephenie Meyer
chocochic53
, December 09, 2007
I wouldn't have normally picked up this book considering it has vampires in it and that seems pretty creepy normally, but this book is one of the most well-written books I have ever read, and I have read a lot of books in my 15 years. Stephenie Meyer has created her characters exceptionally and I love them!!
