Phantom Army of the Civil War & Other Southern Ghost Stories
by
Frank Spaeth
kygolfers637
, May 02, 2008
It would appear that the Civil War produced more ghost than any four-year period of our history. The ghost books I have read have certainly been filled with them. The “Phantom Army of the Civil War” was new to me and I am afraid it still is. It was a fun read of ghost stories and legends. Most of them did come from the southern states, but not the war. It is a well-written book. By Ruth Thompson author of “The Bluegrass Dream” and “Natchez Above The River”

Cause Of Death
by
Patricia Cornwell
kygolfers637
, May 02, 2008
One of Scarpetta’s favorite reporters is dead and she must investigate his death. Why was he in the river at the old Navy yard? Cornwell can give you all the forensics that most people do not have in their background. Here she takes you underwater to remove the body of the reporter. This is one of her better books. Read it, you will like it. By Ruth Thompson author of “The Bluegrass Dream” and “Natchez Above The River”

Hornets Nest

Patricia Cornwell

Cornwell over whelmed me with all of the new characters that she has woven into her story. Her plot is a serial killer, the Black Widow, who focuses on out-of-town businessmen. Cornwell became side tracked with all of the political discord. You wonder when Scarpetta has the time to do her other autopsies. By Ruth Thompson author of “The Bluegrass Dream” and “Natchez Above the River.”

Scarpetta has a killer with a deep-seated hostility that is directed at her. He has used a rare virsus to kill his victim. Has Scarpetta been infected? This is one of her fastest moving novels that Cornwell has written. At first you think it is a serial killer. Then Scarpetta with her expertise uncovers the efforts of the killer to mislead. This is one of Cornwell’s “I can’t put it down.” By Ruth Thompson author of “The Bluegrass Dream” and “Natchez Above The River”

Cornwell weaves her story of corruption that escalates to murder. Hammer is brought in to clean up the police department. Hammer finds that they do not like her stirring-up trouble. All of this is played out in front of the public. There are to many sub characters that take away from the story. By Ruth Thompson author of “The Bluegrass Dream” and “Natchez Above the River”

Scarpetta does not find answers to questions she has on the autopsy she has preformed, no name and no cause of death. Scarpetta does have her personal effects and a strange tattoo that stirs her interest. This case takes her to Europe. In her pursuit for answer she puts herself and others in danger. You fly through the story as she flies all over the world. This is one of her better plots. By Ruth Thompson author of “The Bluegrass Dream” and Natchez Above The River”

Last Precinct

Cornwell always writes in vivid color. Some of her books have been my favorites. However, I think her plots are strong enough that she does not need to have such descriptive details. I find myself skipping these descriptions. Marino has become my favorite character ahead of Scarpetta. If you like violence this is the book for you. Portrait Of A Killer Jack The Ripper Case Closed
by
Patricia Cornwell
kygolfers637
, May 02, 2008
Jack the Ripper, people have had a fascination about him for many years. This is the best of Cornwell’s books. She researched this case and gives her readers an authentic view of what probably happened in London in 1888. Her personal knowledge of forensic science enabled her to identify the author of the Ripper’s letters. I have read and seen many ideas of who the identity of Jack the Ripper was. Cornwell has the best answer to this old question. This book is so much better than “The Last Precinct.” By Ruth Thompson the author of “The Bluegrass Dream” and “Natchez Above The River

Isle Of Dogs

Cornwell gives the reader an interesting conflict between the governor of the state and its citizens. On Virginia’s Isle of Tangeir the people revolt. The public must be protected from all the difficulties that have developed among the citizens and officers of their government. The story keeps moving and you want to know what in the world could happen next. By Ruth Thompson the author of “Natchez Above the River” and “The Bluegrass Dream”

Daniel Boone The Life & Legend of an American Pioneer
by
John Mack Faragher
kygolfers637
, May 02, 2008
Daniel Boone was a long hunter and it brought him to the hunting ground of Kentucky. He hunted the land several times before he brought his family to Boonesborough a fort on the Kentucky River. Faragher shows that Boone was a man of character. He loved the frontier and wanted to be a part of it. He wanted to live in peace with the Indians but at times he found them to be his enemy. The people he encouraged to come west began to crowd him and he began to look for a new frontier farther west. The Author was very factual about the man, Daniel Boone. Zane Gray’s books were the first westerns I ever read. I loved them then and I love them now. “The Spirit Of The Border” takes place in the Ohio River Valley. This is very close to home for me. Zane Gray mixes historical event into his stories. It is a fast moving and one you don’t want to put down until you complete that last page if you have not read this, read it you will enjoy the adventure. Shades of Gray: A Novel of the Civil War in Virginia
by
Jessica James
kygolfers637
, May 01, 2008
There were many, many, spies in the Civil War. It was hard to trust anyone. Jessica James tells a story of a Union spy, Andrea Evans and a Southern Captain, Alex Hunter. Each had strong convictions concerning their views of the problems that faced our country in the era of the Civil War. The author keeps your attention moving her story through the Civil War in Virginia. Cripe starts before Ft. Sumter and takes you to the end of the War Between The States. I have read many books that focus on situations during the war and I enjoyed them, however the teacher in me likes the four-year period. I liked Catherine Morgan, for her courage and wisdom. This is a try it you will like it book. Ruth Thompson author of “Natchez Above The River” – A Family’s Survival In The Civil War and “The Bluegrass Dream” - A Wilderness Adventure of Early Settlers

The child in me loves ghosts stories. All over our nations you find ghosts. There probably there has never been a bigger source of ghosts stories than the Civil War. Civil War Ghosts was a fun one to read. I had read some of these in other books. This is a good collection and you will enjoy it. Rebel Fever: A Civil War Novel
by
David Healey
kygolfers637
, May 01, 2008
Healey gets your attention and keeps it. “Rebel Fever” is a very interesting thriller of a desperate way to end the War Between the States. The Civil war was the first modern war with the new advances in so many fields. It had one of our main problems that the defense of our country today has to face. Read this fine book and see for yourself. It is fast moving thriller. Review by Ruth Thompson author of “Natchez Above The River” and “The Bluegrass Dream”

The Bluegrass Dream: A Wilderness Adventure of Early Settlers
by
Ruth Thompson
kygolfers637
, April 05, 2008
âThe Bluegrass Dreamâ by Ruth Thompson promises you that you will laugh at Jess, cry with Jess, be amazed with Jess, work hard with Jess, be frightened for Jess, and love with her while she takes her place in the Bluegrass of Kentucky. This is a delightful story of her exciting adventures when the first settlers came over the Allegany Mountains into the Bluegrass. Kentucky was known as the dark and bloody ground where many Indian tribes hunted and some of these tribes are woven into the story. You will find descriptions of how she made her home and its contents. The story also identifies the landmarks of the time. Ruth Thompson author of âNatchez Above The Riverâ
