This unputdownable, compelling story is a wonderful conclusion to the Deputies of Anderson County series. The intriguing plot with non-stop action and expertly placed twists kept me immersed in the story from the beginning to the highly satisfying ending and guessing at the outcome. I love the wonderfully crafted, realistically flawed main characters Doug and Tabitha. Even though he is consumed with unwarranted guilt, Doug is an admirable, protective hero. His patience with Tabitha as he strives to convince her of her worth and earn her trust is admirable. Tabitha touched my heart with her vulnerability and struggle with fear. I appreciate the gentle faith thread that is woven throughout the story. With a perfect balance of suspense, romance, and faith, this is one of the best inspirational romantic suspense books I have read this year. I highly recommend it. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My high expectations for this second book in the Lake City Heroes series were met and exceeded. This book features two expertly plotted storylines—one set in 1947 and the other in present day. The historical storyline compliments and adds depth to the main present-day storyline. It was great to reconnect with the Lake City SWAT team and experience Kenzie and Cole’s story. The fast-paced, intensely suspenseful action kept me totally immersed and guessing! The characters are well-crafted and believable. I love Kenzie and Cole as individuals and as a couple. I enjoyed how their sweet romantic relationship develops as they face danger from a killer and deal with Kenzie’s struggle to fit in with the SWAT team. I love this book and highly recommend it and the series. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Note: Although there are carryover characters from the previous book, this book can be read as a standalone. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Trail of Threats

, July 05, 2024
This exciting addition to the multi-author Mountain Country K-9 Unit series hooked me with the first line: “Someone was watching.” The hunt is on in the small, tight-knit community of Elk Valley, Wyoming, for an arsonist bent on killing food truck owner Sadie Owens. The action-packed, danger-filled plot kept me guessing to the end with a perfect blend of inspiration, romance, and suspense. I love Rocco, the honorable and chivalrous hero, and Sadie, the strong independent yet vulnerable heroine. Brave little three-year old Myles stole my heart! I appreciate the valuable, relevant faith lessons on trusting God. This quote gave me pause to contemplate: “She wanted to be able to say, ‘I trust Him even if…’ and mean it to the marrow of her bones.” The “to be continued” ending leaves another case open making way for the next books in the series. I love this story and recommend it as a must read for inspirational romantic suspense fans. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. Virginia: Volume 4
by
Shannon McNear
Carolyn
, July 03, 2024
Virginia is the fourth wonderful addition to the Daughters of the Lost Colony series. I enjoyed this entertaining, touching series very much, and this book is my favorite of the four. This well-written, well-researched, fictional “what if” story of Virginia Dare, the first English child born in the New World, drew me in from the beginning and kept me reading expectantly to the satisfying ending. The emotion-packed, dramatic plot, perfectly blending the factual and fictional, flows at a steady pace. Detailed descriptions of the Outer Banks setting, amazing historical details, and beautifully crafted, memorable characters, both historical and fictional, bring the story to life. I especially appreciate the strong faith element expounding valuable spiritual truths concerning the character and power of the One True God and his free gift of salvation. The author’s historical notes, glossary and cast of characters at the end of the book featuring definitions of Native terms and explanations of historical context of people, people groups, and places are very useful in navigating the story especially if you have not read the previous books in the series. I recommend this book and the series as must reads for historical romance fans. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. Her Loyal Companion: An Uplifting Inspirational Romance
by
Heidi Main
Carolyn
, June 30, 2024
This is the first Heidi Main book I have read, and I love it! Set in Serenity, Texas, this is a heart-warming, faith-filled story of second chances not only for romance but also for rescue dogs! I enjoyed Autumn, Wyatt, and Harper’s journey as they struggle to heal from past hurts/traumas and learn to trust again while also trying to make a success of Autumn’s dog boarding/training business. The plot moves at a steady pace with well-placed twists. I love Autumn and Wyatt as a couple, and my heart went out to precocious little Harper and the cool cast of furry friends! I greatly appreciate the strong faith thread and spiritual growth that takes place in the story. This book worked well as a standalone but left me wanting to read the first two books in the Triple C Ranch series to learn Trisha and Laney’s backstories! I think contemporary inspirational romance fans will love this story, and I highly recommend it. I received a copy of this book from the author with no obligation to write a positive review. Ambush in the Mountains

This book features non-stop action and suspense with one attack after another as Summer and Axel along with trusty canine Camo run from human traffickers bound on recapturing Summer at any cost. Treacherous Montana mountain terrain and freezing, snowy weather conditions intensify the suspense. The characters are well-crafted and realistic. A light faith thread and a bit of sweet romance round out the story. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and stayed glued to the pages for the entirety of the story. I was so caught up in it, I read it in one sitting! I think fans of inspirational romantic suspense will enjoy this story of courage and redemption as much as I did. Waiting for the Rancher: A Sweet Historical Romance
by
Jody Hedlund
Carolyn
, June 24, 2024
Set in 1879 Colorado, Waiting for the Rancher is a stirring, engaging start to the High Country Ranch Series! The series centers around the lives and loves of the Oakley siblings—Maverick, Clarabelle, Ryder, Tanner, and Clementine. The Oakley family was introduced in Ms. Hedlund’s Colorado Cowgirls series and another sibling Weston Oakley is featured as the main character in Claiming the Cowgirl, the last book of that series. Waiting for the Rancher is Maverick’s story. The well-structured, fast-paced plot with some surprising twists kept me absorbed from the beginning to the delightful ending. Expertly crafted, relatable characters captured my heart and imagination. Maverick and Hazel’s friends-to-more romance has its ups and downs with chemistry that soars off the charts! After reading Maverick’s story, I can’t wait to see what is in store for the remaining Oakley siblings! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Willing to Wed the Rancher: A Sweet Historical Romance
by
Jody Hedlund
Carolyn
, June 20, 2024
Willing to Wed the Rancher is a touching addition to the High Country Ranch series. Set in 1879, this compelling story continues the saga of the Oakley siblings—Maverick, Clarabelle, Ryder, Tanner, and Clementine—of Summit County, Colorado. It is great historical romance where the focus is on romance—steamy but clean. This is Clarabelle’s story. The fast-paced plot with its twists and turns kept me reading expectantly to the satisfying end. I adore intelligent, steadfast hero Franz and sweet, kind-hearted heroine Clarabelle and how their love at first sight relationship develops, but it is the two adorable children Dieter and Bianca who stole my heart! A bit of danger and mystery added to the mix adds excitement and suspense to the sweet romance and family dynamics. I love this book and highly recommend it. I can’t wait to continue this series with Ryder’s story coming up next. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. Coal Black Lies: An Appalachian Novel
by
Cindy Sproles
Carolyn
, June 10, 2024
Coal Black Lies was one of my most anticipated reads of the year. I was not disappointed! Set in Kentucky coal country in 1899, this is a touching, heart-wrenching tale driven by greed and lies. Ms. Sproles brings the Appalachian culture to life with her vivid descriptions and use of the unique dialect of the rural mountain people. Expertly placed unexpected twists kept me guessing at the outcome. Compelling characters kept me emotionally invested from beginning to end. I fell in love with Aughtie, a thoughtfully portrayed, precious child with disabilities, whose sweet innocence and pure love affect all those around her. I greatly appreciate the strong faith thread with themes of forgiveness and redemption. I love this story and highly recommend it. Hidden in the Night
by
Elizabeth Goddard
Carolyn
, May 27, 2024
What a fantastic conclusion to the outstanding Missing in Alaska series with non-stop action and layers of unpredictable danger not only from the “bad guys”, but also from the Alaskan terrain and weather! The complex, skillfully crafted plot’s twists and turns kept me turning pages. The suspenseful mystery centers around a missing girl and a rare, lost Jack London manuscript; however, there is a lot more going on casting a wider net and upping the threat level. Amazing historical detail and vivid descriptions bring the story to life. The deftly sketched beautiful, but harsh, Southeast Alaskan setting in itself intensifies the suspense. Add in a diverse cast of memorable, richly crafted characters, a bit of sweet second chance romance, and a light faith thread which come together perfectly with the drama and setting to make an exceptionally satisfying and entertaining read. I love this book and the series and highly recommend them. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. Mary's Calico Hope
by

, May 16, 2024
Mary’s Calico Hope, the fifth book in the multi-author The Heart of the Amish series, is a heartwarming story of courage, love, faith, and hope. I love this story that centers around Mary Yoder, a young Amish woman, and Reuben King, a young Mennonite doctor. The two are immediately attracted to each other, but the development of their relationship faces what seem to be insurmountable obstacles. The well-written story drew me in from the beginning and kept me absorbed all the way to the end. Richly drawn, true-to-life characters drive the story. The author effectively conveys the emotions of her characters making them come alive and easy to root for, and she paints a realistic picture of the Amish lifestyle. Faith flows naturally throughout the story with reminders of seeking and accepting God’s will. I highly recommend this book especially for fans of Amish romance. Note: Even though it is part of a series, this book can easily be read as a standalone. Shielding the Innocent Target
by
Terri Reed
Carolyn
, May 14, 2024
Shielding the Innocent Target, concluding the wonderful U.S. Marshall series, is fast-paced and packed with action! I figured out early on who was behind the plot to eliminate the witness, but that did not distract from the enjoyment of the read. The smoothly flowing plot drew me in from the beginning and held me fast to the end. The characters are expertly crafted and realistic. The romantic tension between U.S. Deputy Marshall Lucas Cavendish and witness Paige Walsh runs as high as the suspense of the dangerous circumstances they find themselves in on their perilous trip from Florida to Texas never knowing who to trust. I love Paige’s strength and Lucas’s determination. Who could resist brave six-year-old Kenny and his super-attentive therapy dog Aslan? I enjoyed being reunited with characters from previous books. Even though there are carryover characters, this book is easily read as a standalone. I think fans of romantic suspense will love this story. I highly recommend it. Texas Forsaken

Sherry Shindelar
Carolyn
, May 05, 2024
Texas Forsaken is an impressive beginning to the Lone Star Redemption series. Set in 1860s Texas, Eyes-Like-Sky and Garret’s story is an emotional saga of resilience, courage, and redemption. In this story, the author does an excellent job of conveying the emotions of her characters. I could feel the anguish and outrage Eyes-Like-Sky felt for losing her husband, her home, and her freedom to have any say about what happens to her. This heartbreaking but also heartwarming story drew me in from the beginning and kept me turning pages to see how it would all play out. The combination of a well-crafted plot with a few twists and surprises, wonderful characters, sweet romance, a genuine western setting, well-researched history, and an encouraging faith thread results in an entertaining, inspiring historical romance read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. When Hope Sank: April 27, 1865 Volume 3
by

Carolyn
, May 01, 2024
When Hope Sank is the third book in Barbour’s fantastic multi-author A Day to Remember series. This compelling fictional historical romance story recounts the April 27, 1865, sinking of the Sultana, a commercial steamboat transporting over two thousand former Union prisoners back home after the Civil War, and the aftermath for one of its survivors Cade Palmer and Lily Livingston, a resident of a small Arkansas town, who helped rescued him. I love the way their unlikely romantic relationship develops. The well-structured plot flows smoothly at a fitting pace. The characters are engaging and true-to-life. Intriguing suspense, authentic history, a hope-filled faith thread, and a bit of romance combine to make a poignant, satisfying read. I highly recommend this book and the series! The Girl from the Hidden Forest
by
Hannah Linder
Carolyn
, May 01, 2024
The Girl from the Hidden Forest is a cleverly plotted, brilliantly written, captivating story. It kept me turning pages to see what happened next, and what happened was usually not what I expected! Beautifully crafted characters drive the story. I love Eliza and Felton. Felton’s impetuous, determined nature with underlying gentleness made him a very realistic character. Eliza is delightful and engaging. I enjoyed how she grew as she learned to navigate the real world after having been secluded in the forest most of her life. Their unique relationship is an intriguing twist on the enemies-to-lovers trope. An authentic Regency setting and suspenseful mystery along with the wonderful characters and sweet romance combine to make a touching, entertaining read. Unforgiven
by
Shelley Shepard Gray
Carolyn
, April 29, 2024
Set in Crittenden County, Kentucky, this emotional Amish romantic suspense story features two people scarred by their pasts struggling to navigate life and love in the environment of an “unforgiving” Amish community and unaccepting family members. The beautifully crafted characters are realistic and memorable. I love Seth and Tabitha and came to care about them as individuals and as a couple. Their story kept me turning the pages to see what and who they would encounter next and what the repercussions would be. Secondary characters, Melonie and Lott, add depth and interest to the story with their touching side story romance. I like the way difficult subjects—domestic abuse, assault, divorce, imprisonment—are treated sensitively and thoughtfully. I appreciate the strong faith thread with themes of trust and forgiveness, with emphasis on self-forgiveness. This heartwarming and at times heartbreaking story is not your typical Amish fare, and I think that even readers who are not Amish fiction fans will enjoy it. His Treasured Bride: A Bride Ships Novel
by
Jody Hedlund and Patti Stockdale
Carolyn
, April 23, 2024
His Treasured Bride, set in the mid 1860s on Vancouver Island, is itself a treasure! This well-written, immersive story continues a storyline started in the first book of the Bride Ships: New Voyages series Finally His Bride but enough background information is given to make it easy to read as a standalone. It is a fun adventure chronicling a treasure hunt which at times becomes quite dangerous. Vivid descriptions of the Vancouver Island area put you at the scene as you travel through the mountains and to the seashore and caves. I love the delightful banter and situations between the two main characters Daisy and Seth and the way their romantic relationship develops in their marriage of convenience. A fast-paced plot, beautifully crafted characters, a picturesque setting, and sweet romance combine in this story to make an enjoyable, satisfying read. If you like marriage of convenience stories and treasure hunts, this book is for you! I highly recommend it. , April 15, 2024
Another winner from master suspense writer Darlene Turner! This fifth book in the Crisis Rescue Team series is packed with action, surprise twists, and edge of your seat suspense! I was hooked from the beginning and immersed in the story to the very end. Suspects abound, and every time Keeley and Brett think they have found a safe haven, they are discovered and face greater danger! The “bad guys” always seem to be a step ahead of them! I love the main characters Keeley Brett, and MJ. The rest of the well-crafted, multi-dimensional characters add depth and play a big part in moving the plot forward. The addition of sweet second-chance romance, a beautifully sketched Yukon wilderness setting, fascinating use of forensic botany, and relevant faith lessons in forgiveness rounds out a wonderfully inspiring, absorbing, and satisfying read. Endearing characters who touched my heart, an engaging plot with perfectly placed twists that kept me guessing, and sweet “married” romance made this a definite “sleep stealer”! If the Boot Fits, the second book in the Texas Ever After series, is a touching, entertaining read! The creative reverse Cinderella vibe is delightful. The story grabbed me from the beginning and kept me reading expectantly to the satisfying end. The plot flows smoothly with well-placed suspenseful twists and turns. True-to-life characters, main and secondary, captured my heart and imagination and kept me firmly invested in the outcome. I love Samantha and Ash and how their sweet romance developed. I appreciate how faith is seamlessly and naturally woven into the story with many relevant reminders. The authentic 1889 western setting and bits of humor add depth and interest to the story. I think fans of fairy tales and historical Christian romance will love this story as much as I did, and I highly recommend it as a read well worth your time. Note: Each book in the Texas Ever After series is a standalone. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All My Secrets

, January 18, 2024
All My Secrets is Historical Christian Romance of the highest quality! This powerful story of faith and love in trying circumstances is one that stays with you long after the last line is read. It is a beautifully crafted story with an emotionally rich, multi-faceted storyline seamlessly transitioning between flashbacks and real time. I was immediately drawn in and stayed immersed in the story and the vividly described Gilded Age setting. The characterization is amazing. The story is told from the point of view of all three main characters—women at different stages of life; therefore, I think women of all ages will find someone to connect with in the story. I love Junietta’s “tell it like it is” insight into what is really important in life, and her strong faith. She is now on my list of favorite fictional characters. I greatly appreciate the strong faith element with the theme of God’s forgiveness. This book is the latest addition to my Best Reads Ever list and has my highest recommendation. The Juliet Code is another exciting adventure with Freddie and Grace packed with mystery, drama, humor, romance, and faith. The intriguing plot, with a wonderful Venetian setting, kept me guessing for the entirety of the story. A favorite quote: “This whole case has been a series of things or people not being what or who they’re supposed to be”. So true! I love the delightful interaction between Freddie and Grace in both their personal and professional lives. They complement each other perfectly. I also enjoyed the cast of secondary characters as I tried to distinguish the “good” ones from the “bad”! I greatly appreciate the valuable faith lessons on courage and God’s “holding us wherever we are”. This book can easily be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the books in order for a more complete reading experience and just because they are all so good! Hopefully there are more adventures with Freddie and Grace to come. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing via NetGalley with no obligation to post a review. The Warsaw Sisters: A Novel of WWII Poland
by
Amanda Barratt
Carolyn
, November 20, 2023
The Warsaw Sisters is a beautifully written, emotionally charged read set in Poland against the background of WWII (1939-1945)—an era wrought with oppression and inhumane cruelty especially against the Jewish people. This is historical fiction at its finest. Meticulous research and attention to historical detail put you at the scene and immerse you in the action as you join Polish sisters Antonina and Helena on their heart-wrenching journeys fighting bravely against the invaders of their beloved homeland. These journeys test their bond as sisters and their faith. Themes of hope and perseverance lend light to the darkness of the horrible hardships and devastation caused by the war. An amazing cast of realistic characters drives the story and keeps you turning pages to see how they all fare in the end. A subtle faith thread, running throughout the story, is best summed up in this quote: "for in the moments when it seems no heart could bear the emptiness, I had learned God is nearest in our shattered places." The romantic subplots add depth and interest to the story. I love this thought-provoking story, highly recommend it, and count it as one of my Best Reads of the Year. Captivated by the Cowgirl, Book 4 of the Colorado Cowgirls series, is the youngest Courtney sister’s touching, entertaining story. As we return to 1878 Fairplay, Colorado, we find that feisty nineteen year old Felicity Courtney now has sole responsibility for the Courtney homestead and boardinghouse. The fast-paced plot has a lighter atmosphere than the other sisters’ stories, but romance is still front and center bringing with it adventure and danger. Although Felicity is not ready to settle down, and Philip does not want to commit to a relationship as long as his life is being threatened, they are irresistibly drawn to each other in a big way! Their flirtatious banter is delightful. Well-crafted secondary characters add to the enjoyment of the story. I highly recommend this book and the series. This sweet western saga, Book 3 of the Colorado Cowgirls series, is an exciting journey back to 1878 Fairplay, Colorado, to catch up with the Courtney sisters. This is Patience’s story. I love Patience mainly because she is so “real”. Her outlook on life is colored by her mother’s admonition that “no decent man would want her for a wife, since she was so distractible, scattered, and clumsy.” To me, her distractibility, creative nature, and naivety are endearing! Her interaction with precocious four year old Evangeline is wonderfully heartwarming, and the development of her romantic relationship with marriage of convenience husband Spencer is beautiful despite misunderstandings and trust issues. This Is Where It Ends

Cindy K. Sproles

, June 13, 2023
Talented storyteller Cindy Sproles excels in telling an Appalachian tale with fervor and authenticity. Set in Kentucky in the early 1900s, the character driven plot of This Is Where It Ends drew me in quickly and kept me reading with anticipation. The first person narrative is very fitting for Minerva’s story as it allows for deeper insight into her thoughts and feelings and helps develop an emotional connection with her which is very important in this type of story. I enjoyed the local dialect and vivid descriptions that add flavor to the mountain setting. I especially enjoyed the descriptions regarding kudzu which I know, from first-hand experience, are spot-on! I love Minerva and her strong, faithful spirit reminiscent of a special mountain lady from my childhood. Del also stole my heart with the patience and sweet love he showed for Minerva. I greatly appreciate how the story conveys the spiritual truths of forgiveness and living life looking “beyond what is temporal to what is eternal.” This book touched my heart, and I highly recommend it.
