Paul Bowles (1911-1999) was a novelist, short story writer, travel writer, translator, composer, ethnomusicologist, and author of a large body of work including The Sheltering Sky. He was among the most gifted of this century's writers and a composer of renown. This quartet of stories was published by City Lights Books in 1962 and recorded by him in Morocco in 1978. It is the only unabridged reading by Paul Bowles of the entirety of one of his books.
Included in the CD set is a printed insert that reproduces the essay by Paul Bowles which Cadmus Editions commissioned for the original LP production. Cover art is by Brion Gysin in full color, and a photograph of the author is also featured.
Synopsis
Paul Bowles reads this classic suite of Moroccan kif stories that he recorded in Tangier, Morocco, in the Fall of 1978. Previously released as a 2 LP recording in 1981, and long sold out, these stories are now available again in this audiobook format. Bowles' accompanying essay for this recording is printed in the included booklet. It sets forth the method of writing employed in these stories the selection of arbitrary incidents and phenomena factored into the kif-smokers imperium of sensibility.
