About the Author
After graduating from Boston College with a BA in English and Philosophy, Chris Botello began his career as an unpaid intern at the startup of PREMIERE Magazine. He was hired as a production assistant and was soon promoted to production manager, reporting directly to Susan Lyne, who was up until recently President of ABC Television and is now CEO of Martha Stewart Omnimedia.
In the early 90s, Chris was hired by Bob and Harvey Weinstein to lead MIRAMAX FILM?s marketing department in its transition to ?desktop publishing.? At MIRAMAX, Chris was an art director for numerous movie campaigns including The Grifters, Madonna: Truth or Dare, and The Crying Game.
Chris segued into the education field with Color Across America, a traveling seminar series introducing Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop to print industry professionals and designers throughout the country. Chris spoke and presented to audiences as large as 900 people in 37 American cities, then followed the show to Paris, London, Munich and other European cities.
Chris launched a publishing career in early 2000, when he was approached to write a book on Illustrator 10 for Thomson Publishing in Boston. He soon published additional books ? all for Thomson Publishing - on Premiere in 2002, InDesign in 2004, and most recently Premiere Pro and Photoshop in 2005.
Chris relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 specifically to return to his first love: movie posters. He worked at Crew Creative Advertising, a leading Hollywood agency where he designed and produced posters and campaigns for major feature films, including Bewitched, Poseidon, Jarhead, The 40-year-old Virgin, and the Harry Potter franchise.
To his surprise, Chris found himself evolving out of design and into retouching and finishing. Presently, he is employed at NBC Television as a retoucher/finisher and is producing key art for numerous new fall shows including Heroes, Friday Night Lights, Kidnapped and Studio 60.
