Excerpt from Annual Report of International Activities: Fiscal Year 1969
During Fiscal Year 1969, the nih was engaged in various forms of international cooperation intended to advance our medical knowledge re lating to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease and there fore improve the health of the American pe0p1e. Included among these 'mechanisms were research and research training grants and contracts to foreign institutions, fellowships to foreign scientists, collaborative research agreements, and support of international conferences.
On July 1, 1968, at the beginning of Fiscal Year 1969, the Public Health Service was reorganized into three Administrations-the National Institutes of Health, Health Services and Mental Health Administration, and Consumer Protection and Environmental Health Service. Within the nih are now included 16 components including 10 research Institutes.
